Shreyas Iyer had faced significant criticism over his failure to convert his starts at the start of the ICC World Cup. He got dismissed on a duck in India’s opening match against Australia. He had two unbeaten scores of 25 and 53.

Iyer disappointed once again scoring 19, 33 and 4 in the next three matches against Bangladesh, New Zealand and England. Iyer struggled to play against the short pitch delivery which was concern for many fans and many former cricketers as well.

But Iyer gave a befitting reply to his critics, as he scored 50+ scores in the four matches since then. He scored a pressure releasing 82 against Sri Lanka. He missed his century scoring 77 against South Africa. He scored two successive centuries against Netherlands and New Zealand.

Talking to the media Iyer said he was angry at the criticism he faced the initial phase of the tournament. He said he did not perform well in the first two matches of the World Cup. Iyer said he was getting the starts but he was not able to convert the starts into big ones.

He said he remained unbeaten against Afghanistan and Pakistan. He said he had two bad innings after that. Iyer said people even started saying that he has a problem. He said he felt very angry at the people’s comments but he knew his time would come and he knew it all along.

Iyer had made his comeback from injury in the Asia Cup. He was forced to take a back seat due to back spasms before the match against Pakistan. He made a comeback to the playing 11 in India’s bilateral series before the World Cup against Australia, where he also scored a century. Team India enjoyed a 70 run victory against New Zealand on Wednesday, thus securing its place in the final of the 2023 ICC World Cup.

He thanked the Indian players for filling the heart of every Indian with joy.  

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge congratulated Team India for entering the finals of the ICC Cricket World Cup. He said Team India was now one step closer to winning the World Cup trophy. He said every Indian is filled with utmost joy and pride by the stupendous performance of the entire team. He also congratulated Virat Kohli and Mohammad Shami for their performance during the match.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari congratulated the India team for their victory against New Zealand to enter the World Cup finals. He said India crushed New Zealand and was eyeing ultimate glory in the finals.

All the teams have started preparations for the ODI World Cup 2023, which will be held in India. With less than a year left in this tournament every team is keeping their best foot forward and working out team combinations for the big ICC tournament.

As the host, Team India has already qualified for the ODI World Cup 2023. After this, seven teams including England, New Zealand, Australia, Bangladesh and Pakistan have qualified for this World Cup. Afghanistan has also recently qualified for the big battle, but surprisingly West Indies, Sri Lanka and South Africa have not been able to qualify for the World Cup so far.

As per ICC rules, the top eight teams on the points table of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League will directly qualify for the World Cup. The Indian team will make it to the tournament as hosts. Whereas, the rest of the teams will have to play the qualifying round and the first two placed teams will make it to the main round. In such a situation, teams like South Africa, Sri Lanka and West Indies can be in trouble.

The Sri Lankan team is currently at the 10th position in the points table of the Cricket World Cup Super League with 67 points. They have four matches to make it to the eight teams. Same way South Africa is at 11th position with 59 points. They will have to win four of their five matches to make it to the super eight. Three of these matches are against England and two are against team Netherlands.

On the other hand, West Indies is at the eighth position with 88 points. This team can directly qualify for the World Cup by performing well in their upcoming matches. Compared to South Africa and Sri Lanka, the road to West Indies is easier.
