Australia bagged the 7th ICC Women World Cup title after defeating the in-form England by 71 runs at the Hagley Oval on Sunday. The Australian Women were very dominant throughout the tournament due to which they lifted the trophy.

After winning 9 out of 9 games, the visitor will be taking home a huge amount of money almost doubled from the 2017 prize month in England. Out of 12 World Cups, Australia has won 7 titles.

Australia, the winners of the tournament, will take home prize money of $1.32 million (approximately Rs 10 crore) which is double from the 2017 edition of the World Cup which was held in England. While, the runners-up England will be taken home a sum of $600,000 (approximately Rs 4.5 crore) which is more than India had been rewarded in 2017 for finishing as runners-up to England at Lord’s.

This time, the overall prize money pot has also seen an increase of 75%, with the eight teams have taken home a share of $3.5 million which is $1.5 million more than the previous edition.

The two losing semi-finalists West Indies and South Africa will be awarded $300,000 (approximately Rs 2.27 crore) each while the four teams who exit at the group stages will also be awarded a sum of $70,000 – up from the $30,000 prize from the previous edition.

This marks an increase in the prize money during the Women’s Cricket World Cup for consecutive editions. The prize money between the 2013 and the 2017 edition had been witnessed a tenfold increase, going up from $200,000 to $2 million.

England, who has crowned the champions on their home turf, took home a reward of $660,000 after beating India by nine runs to claim their fourth title.

In the 2022 edition, a total of 28 group stage matches have been played in a round-robin format, with each team playing each other once.
