Referring to the fresh spurt in Covid-19 cases in the country, Union health secretary Rajesh Bhushan will hold a meeting today with states’ health secretaries and senior officers to review Covid-19 preparedness.

India reported 1,805 fresh Covid cases in the last 24 hours, a day after it recorded 1,890 cases, the highest in nearly 5 months. With today’s cases, the active cases in the country have crossed the 10,000 mark, which stands at 10,300.

The active cases in the country have remained below the 10,000 mark since November 2022 for the first time since April 2020. According to the Union Health Ministry, the daily positivity rate is recorded at 3.19 percent while the weekly positivity rate is 1.39 percent.

The recovery rate in the country stands at 98.79 percent with 932 recoveries in the last 24 hours. India also logged six Covid deaths in a single day, taking the death toll to 5,30,837.

Details of the nationwide mock drill planned next month at health facilities in all districts will be communicated at the review meeting, said Bhushan. A nationwide mock drill is being planned for 10-11 April, said reports.

According to a joint advisory from the Indian Council of Medical Research and the Union Health Ministry, both public and private health facilities are expected to take part in the exercise to assess the availability of medications, hospital beds, medical equipment, and medical oxygen (ICMR).

India on Sunday reported 1,890 fresh Covid-19 cases in a single day which is the highest in 149 days. According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the daily positivity rate was recorded at 1.56 percent while the weekly positivity rate stood at 1.29 percent.

As per the Health Ministry, the active cases in the country rose to 9,433 which now comprises 0.02 percent of the total infections. Earlier, India recorded the highest number of cases in a single day on October 28 which was 2,208.

India also logged seven deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 5,30,821. Three deaths were reported from Kerala while two deaths were reported from Maharashtra and Gujarat each. The case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 percent.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease surged to 4,41,63,883. The Covid case tally was recorded at 4.47 crore (4,47,04,147), while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has been recorded at 98.79 percent, the ministry said.

Kerala has the highest number of active Covid-19 cases at 2,311 followed by Maharashtra at 1,956, and Karnataka at 683.

According to the ministry’s website, 220.65 crore doses of Covid vaccine have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.
