Rohit Sharma, who had taken over the charge of India’s T20I captain last month, on Wednesday replaced India’s ODI skipper Virat Kohli who had stepped down after ending team India’s T20 World Cup campaign.

Ahead of South Africa tour, Sharma will also take over from Ajinkya Rahane as the Test vice-captain.

Sharm had won his first T20I series against the T20 World Cup New Zealand under the team India’s new head coach Rahul Dravid.

The All India senior selection committee took this decision and picked an 18-member squad for the Test series against South Africa.

As per reports, the selection committee was headed by former Indian cricketer Chetan Sharma, Abey Kuruvilla, and Debashish Mohanty. India is all set to play against South Africa in 3 Tests and 3 ODIs.

Rohit Sharma appointed new ODI captain

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared the development on Twitter and wrote that the All-India Senior Selection Committee has decided to name Rohit Sharma as the Captain of the ODI and T201 teams.

Apart from this, the BCCI has informed that players like Shubham Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, and Axar Patel were not present during the selection due to injuries and are undergoing treatment.
