Amid the scare of the new variant of coronavirus Omicron, maximum countries have banned their international flights with countries ‘at risk’. Ans in such crisis situation when countries are putting a ban on their international flights, an Indian badminton player with two others has been stranded in Botswana, who was there to play his international tournament.

21-years-old Priyansh Khushwani with two others Naren S Iyer and Revati Devasthale had gone to the African country to participate in an international tournament named Botswana International Future Series where Priyansh and Revati won their initial matches.

Priyansh along with two others have been stranded in Botswana for five days after flights were cancelled due to the Omicron scare. Priyansh is from Madhya Pradesh’s Indore and has represented the state in the junior nationals and also won many trophies.

His parents urged the Indian government to bring back their son to the country as soon as possible. Priyaansh’s father Dilip Khushwani appealed to the government and said that after the championship his son was supposed to come back on November 28, but due to Omicron scare his flight on November 27 was cancelled.

“My son competed in the International Open competition in Botswana. On November 28, Qatar Airlines cancelled all flights. We scheduled two more flights since then, but all were cancelled. He went on to say, the Indian Embassy in Botswana has taken all required arrangements after being contacted. His visa was also up for renewal on November 30,” said Priyansh’s father.

However, after his father contacted to the Indian Embassy, the embassy has made all the necessary arrangements for the safe homecoming of the Indian shuttler. Priyansh’s visa got expired on November 28, with his tourist visa, his father Dilip Khushwani booked a flight to Kenya and then from there to Ahmedabad on December 10.

“We pray this time his flight to Ahmedabad does not get cancelled,” said his father.
