Amid reduced visibility due to fog, a roadways bus collided with a gas tanker in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal that killed eight people and injured around 21, police said. Moradabad Inspector General of Police (IG) Ramit Sharma told reporters that all the injured have been taken to the hospital and bodies of the deceased have been sent for the post-mortem. Traffic has been diverted as there is some gas left in the tanker, he added.

Earlier, Superintendent of Police Chakresh Mishra had said 25 people had been injured and that the head-on collision took place on the Agra-Moradabad road.

Police said the deceased are yet to be identified. District administration and police officials are at the spot and rescue operations are on, they added.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolenses to the families of members who lost their lives in the accident, a state government spokesperson said.

The chief minister also directed officials to ensure that those who injured in the accident get adequate treatment, he added.
