The photo and video sharing app Instagram was down on Thursday for several users around the world at around 10 am. Many Instagram users are complaining about lag as they are unable to send messages or log into the app. Users complained of not receiving or sending DMs, posting photos, sharing stories, or refreshing their Instagram.

Instagram took to Twitter to share the news with its users. The tweet read We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing Instagram. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible. Sorry for any inconvenience, and hang tight!

According to a real-time problem and outage monitoring website, Downdetector, nearly 19,000 users were having trouble accessing the social network. And what was next? Users took to Twitter and shared their anger and frustration with the hashtag InstagramDown.

One of the users wrote that Just slapped my wifi router only to realize that Instagram was down. Another commented, Me opening and closing Instagram every five minutes to see if it’s back up.

Yet another wrote Me uninstalling and reinstalling Instagram to see if my wifi is broken.

A fourth user wrote, Me after checking my connection and restarting my phone 5 times to finally know Instagram is down again. Another user commented, Whenever Instagram crashes, I rush to see if everyone got the same problem.

Meta spokesperson Devi Narasimhan told the media that earlier today, a technical issue caused some people to have trouble accessing Instagram. We resolved the issue as quickly as possible, and apologize for any inconvenience, he added.

It is not the first time Instagram faced outage issues. Earlier in May, the popular photo and video sharing platform suffered an outage across India. Instagram was down in several cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Jaipur, Lucknow and Indore among others, as per outage detection site Downdetector.com.

Several users across the globe are facing issues in sending DMs on Instagram and Facebook Messenger. The issue was experienced till Wednesday morning and 938 complaints were reported, as per downdetector.in.

As per the complaints by the users, Instagram DMs and Facebook Messenger are disappearing for some users after being sent.

According to the website services status tracker, Instagram witnessed heavy outages from around 8 pm on July 5 that continued till Wednesday morning. Downdetector showed two peaks out outage reports, one at 11:18 PM on July 5 and the other at 10:18 AM on July 6.

Till now, there has been no official confirmation or statement regarding the outage by the Meta-owned social media platforms.

According to DownDetector, Instagram has problems with readying profile pages and the home feed for several users. However, the preloaded stories and posts were working fine.

After the brief disruption, the services were restored. But the tweeple got the fodder that they were looking for as soon the services got affected. They started making memes on that.

One of the users wrote now that Instagram is down, he can sleep peacefully without any guilt.

Another user wrote that every month Instagram is down for a day I guess there is something big going on inside.

Yet another wrote that this is a bad day for influencers as they’ll be looking real bad without their usual filters.

A user also wrote that Instagram crashes its server from time to time to give a strategic time out to the reel dancers.

Meanwhile, a similar outage happened a month ago that affected the services of Google Maps. It is reported that because of the weekend outage, several people were unable to navigate back home after their weekend social plans.

Instagram on Sunday reported an outage where users across the world are unable to share any stories. However, the platform has not officially identified the glitch or commented about it.

As per Down Detector, reporting of an Instagram outage showed a sharp spike between 10:58 pm and 11:58 pm IST. At 11:28 pm, the outages reported increased to 12,507. Soon after users struggled to share stories, Twitter got swamped with hilarious memes.

Facebook and its other apps, including Instagram and WhatsApp faced a major outage that was almost for 8 hours on Monday. After perfect 8 hours of sleep, without checking dutifully the three social media platforms, users were able to get back to their normal social media use in the early hours of Tuesday.

Facebook and its family of apps crashed on Monday and users were not able to send and receive messages. Moreover, they were not even able to refresh their news feeds.

Facebook informed about the outage and said that they feel sorry that their users around the world and people and businesses across the globe who depend on them are facing inconvenience.

The social media giant further said that they’ve been working as hard as they can to restore access and their systems are now back up and running.

What was the cause of the outage?

Facebook said that their engineering teams got to know that the configuration changes on the backbone routers that coordinate network traffic between their data centres caused issues and that became the reason for the outage.

According to Downdetector, more than 73,000 problems with WhatsApp were recorded. It was mentioned that 43 per cent of the WhatsApp problems were linked with the app and 28 per cent were related to sending messages.

The Communications head of Facebook, Andy Stone, said that they are aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products. They are working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.

It is also reported that the outage became the reason for Mark Zuckerberg’s loss and the company’s stock crashed by around 5 per cent within hours of the outage.

Instagram is down in India and some other parts of the world. The picture and video sharing platform was facing the issue in its servers with Facebook and WhatsApp due to which the users are not able to refresh the app. However, Facebook and WhatsApp are working fine. The Android and iOS users issued complain and said that they are facing problems while using the app as the page is not being loaded and they are not able to refresh it too.

According to DownDetector, it has been reported that the issue on the Facebook platform Instagram started in India at around 11:02 AM on September 2, 2021. It is reported that around 45 per cent of Instagram users are facing issues on the app and 33 per cent of users are facing issues on the Instagram website. The rest of 22 per cent of users are complaining that they are facing server connection issues. Currently, more than 1,000 Instagram users have complained about the issue on the website.

The DownDetector said that the users should not reinstall the app as that will not resolve the issue. They further said that the issue is from the company’s server and it will be fixed soon.

Several users said that when they are opening Instagram, a notification is popping up that reads, “We are sorry, but something went wrong. Please try again.” However, the company has not yet acknowledged the issue. Some users are facing problems while sending a DM to a friend.

Notably, the issue has been resolved for some people but there are a few people that are still complaining on Twitter about the issue that they are still facing the same issue.
