The photo and video-sharing platform owned by Meta Platforms, Instagram, is getting a feature that will allow users to add lyrics to their reels. Instagram head at the Mark Zuckerberg-helmed social media giant, Adam Mosseri took to his Broadcast Channel to announce the update.

Adam Mosseri noted that a new feature is rolling out a way to add song lyrics when editing Instagram Reels. He added that they have seen people manually add lyrics to Reels, so he hopes that this makes it easier to use music to express oneself. He assured that they are working on more updates to get creative on Reels. He further mentioned that the feature is similar to one that is already available for Instagram Stories.

Here are the steps to add song lyrics to your Instagram Reels:

First, go to the Instagram app, followed by tapping the Reels icon at the bottom of the screen.

Then, click on the Music icon on the top of the screen and choose a song from the library or your own audio.

Next, tap on the Lyrics icon at the bottom and choose a font and a colour for the text.

Then, drag the text to the desired position and, using the slider, select the portion or part of the lyrics you want to display.

Finally, tap on the Done button and edit and share the Reel as usual.

Notably, music has become a key element in the growth of TikTok, with the platform now looking to expand its music industry links, through a new partnership with Billboard on a TikTok trending chart and even its own live music event.

Instagram stated that social media users are already manually adding song lyrics to their Reels clips, so it probably makes sense for IG to make this easier. Reports stated that the new lyrics sticker has been rolled out to all Instagram users.

Every now and then, Instagram is working on new features to boost users experience. Presently, the Meta-owned photo-sharing app is rolling out two new features, Rage Shake and Carousel Deletion. The Rage Shake feature will allow users to make a complaint immediately by shaking their phone and Carousel Deletion will let you delete individual photos from a carousel after it has been uploaded.

Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, announced these two features in a video posted on his Twitter account. Mosseri stated in the video that users will be able to quickly notify the company of any issues and problems they encounter while using the app.

For the unversed, Instagram already has an option of reporting issues in the app. Users can go to Settings and tap on Did something go wrong? feature to report issues with the app. To complain about an issue manually, users can go to Settings, then help and then tap on the report a problem. But with the Rage shake feature users can simply shake their phone which makes it easier to report a problem.

Shake to Report is a similar feature that already exists in applications like Facebook, where users may report technical issues with the app by shaking their smartphone, along with a setting to turn off the feature. Snapchat also offers a similar feature in which users may report an issue by shaking their smartphones. The ‘Rage Shake’ feature will be available in both Android and iOS but currently, this feature is only launched for US users.

Another feature allows users to remove a single image from a gallery on their feed. The function known as “Carousel Deletion” will provide users with the ability to delete a single image from the carousel. Instagram users will be able to delete images by clicking the three-dot menu and then swiping to the image they wish to delete. The new feature will display as a trash symbol on top of the menu. After deleting a single image, users can click “Done” to save.

In a video, Mosseri referred to this as the “finally feature”. He stated that the function has long been requested by users and that it should have been available much sooner.
