Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Rajasthan’s Rajsamand Diya Kumari has claimed that the land on which the Taj Mahal was built originally belonged to the Jaipur royal family. She also said that the land was acquired by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan.

Speaking to the media, Kumari claimed this based on the documents in their possession. She further said she had heard that Mughals offered compensation for the land but was unsure whether it was accepted or not.

The BJP MP’s statement comes at the time when a petition is going on in the Allahabad High Court that sought directives from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to open 20 rooms inside the Taj Mahal to check for the Hindu idols.

Diya Kumari said as per the documents the land belonged to the erstwhile Jaipur royal family and since it was Mughal’s government, Shah Jahan liked it and acquired it. She further said there was no law to appeal and go against the Mughals then and now she is glad that a petition has been filed in the court which will reveal the hidden truth.

Kumari is ready to provide all documents if the court gives an order. She explained that she hasn’t seen all the documents but is sure that the property belonged to her family. Speaking about the ongoing Taj Mahal petition, Kumari said its rooms should be opened for examination as some rooms have been closed for centuries.

The petition for opening the 22 rooms of the Taj Mahal has been filed in the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court by the BJP media in charge in Ayodhya, Rajneesh Singh. The Allahabad High Court will hear the petition today.
