Priyanka Gandhi, the Congress general secretary and Uttar Pradesh election in-charge, has been seen breaking down during an election rally in Kanpur where she was seen hugging the bereaved mother of a 19-year-old woman who was sexually assaulted and killed. The young woman was raped and strangled to death after she left home to get a laptop.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi broke down along with the rape victim’s mother, who was begging for justice during a poll rally in Kanpur.

In the video, the victim’s mother can be heard seeking justice for her daughter. Beti ko Insaaf Dila Dijiye (Please, give my daughter justice) she can be heard saying to Priyanka when she hugged.

Later, the victim’s mother was accompanied by Priyanka Gandhi, a mother of two herself, to her car and assured all kinds of support in their fight for justice.

Launching its party campaigns ‘Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakati Hoon’ (I am a girl, I can fight) in UP, the Congress has fielded around 50 women candidates in the ongoing Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.

The party has given poll tickets to the mother of the 2017 gangrape victim and a 17-year-old girl in UP’s Unnao district.

The Uttar Pradesh election in-charge, Priyanka Gandhi has been continuously highlighting the incidence of oppression and suffering of people during the Covid second wave in her poll rallies, lectures and online campaigns.

With the help of such campaigns, the Congress is trying to reach out to backward communities, women, young girls, migrant labourers and others. In Uttar Pradesh, the party is trying hard to mobilise discontent against UP CM Yogi Adityanath but it will be interesting to see that it would be translating into votes.
