In a horrifying incident, a woman allegedly threw her 11-day-old baby boy into a well in Mangaluru. The Subrahmanya police of Dakshina Kannada have arrested a woman on charges of murdering a baby. The incident took place at the Bastikaadu house in the Kootkunja village of Sullia.

According to the reports, the woman told the police that the reason for her doing so was that she disliked boys and was hoping to give birth to a baby girl. She has been booked under Section 302 (Punishment for Murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the basis of the complaint filed by her sister-in-law.

The accused’s sister-in-law said Parvati had previously married a man from Bengaluru four years ago, but after their divorce, she married Manikanta from Sira in Tumakuru almost a year ago. She continued by saying that after living with Manikanta for two months, she returned back to her mother’s home because Parvati wasn’t in good health.

She was apparently pregnant at the time and insisted repeatedly that she wanted a girl since she disliked boys for not taking care of their parents. Parvati was admitted to Lady Goschen hospital in Mangaluru about a month ago, where on October 19, she gave birth to a baby boy. She was apparently upset about delivering a baby boy and even refused to breastfeed him properly.

Dakshina Kannada SP Rishikesh Sonawane said that around 3.15 pm, Parvati came out of the room holding the baby in her arms and again told her sister-in-law that she did not want the baby. Parvati’s sister-in-law further said that the accused then walked up to the well located in front of the house and threw the infant into it. After that, she quickly hurried back to her room.

The complainant immediately called her husband and took the baby out of the well with the help of a few others. They rushed the baby to the hospital, where the doctors declared him dead on arrival.

The police have registered a case and are further investigating the matter.
