Senior Congress leader and Karnataka MLA K R Ramesh Kumar has apologised for his controversial rape remarks in Karnataka Assembly on Thursday.

Earlier on Thursday, Karnataka Congress MLA and also a former speaker of the house KR Ramesh Kumar had said in the Assembly that, there is a saying..when rape is inevitable, lie down and enjoy it. Responding to this, Karnataka Assembly Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri started laughing at MLA Kumar’s statement and said, that’s exactly the position into you are.

This sexist comment by Congress MLA KR Ramesh sparked controversy around the country. However, the Karnataka Congress MLA apologised on the same day through his social media. KR Ramesh wrote that he expresses his sincere apologies to everyone for the indifferent and negligent comment that he made in assembly about ‘rape’. He said that it was not his intention to trivialise or make light of the heinous crime but off the mark, he will choose words carefully from next time.

KR Ramesh even apologised in the Assembly on December 17, Friday and said that if his statement hurts the sentiments of women, he has no problem apologising. KR Ramesh said that he apologises from the bottom of his heart. After this Speaker Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri requested other members to not drag the matter further and he has apologised.

Well, this is not the first time that MLA KR Ramesh has used such derogatory remarks against women. Earlier in 2019, he had compared himself to a rape survivor. He said this when MLA Kumar was charged against being a part of some controversial audiotapes. MLA Kumar had said that his situation was like that of a rape victim, as they too are supposedly questioned about the incident repeatedly.
