The Corona period faded all festivals throughout the year. Karwa Chauth, one of the prime festivals of women is celebrated with cautions across different parts of the country. Karwa Chauth fast is acknowledged as special for every woman in India. As per the Hindu traditions, this festival occurs on the fourth day of the Krishna Paksha in Kartik Month.

Origins of festivals are believed to be connected back to the time when Savitri begged Yama to return her husband’s soul. Another story relating to the festival says that Draupadi was suggested by Lord Krishna to observe a strict fast for the safe return of her husband Arjuna when he went to the hills for meditation. The belief is the same as Goddess Parvati observed the fast for Lord Shiva.

How to perform Karwa Chauth rituals?

Women keep fast the whole day without even drinking water. As per rituals, women sit in a group with other women to perform the puja. In the evening when the moon rises, women look at the vessel filled with water and then turn towards their husband to see them through a sieve. The husband itself feeds her the first morsel when the woman breaks her fast. The Karwa pot either filled with milk, water or coins is donated to Brahmin women as a charity.

The festive season that occurs at the start of winter is much awaited for different types of people for different reasons as it has something special for someone in one or many ways. Likewise, Karwa Chauth that occurs 12 days before Diwali is the most important festival of Indian Women.

Specially, the Hindu women of northern India celebrate this festival to wish for a long and healthy life for their husbands. Women spent their whole day without consuming a drop of water or food. They break their fast by performing some rituals when the moon is sighted.

The whole day, the enthusiasm level of Women is at the peak, they make great preparations to mark this day special. The most important part of the festival is to follow rituals that include sargi, dressing up, and breaking of fast.

If it is the first time you are celebrating Karwa Chauth, a few tips mentioned here will help you keep the fast in a healthy way without stress:

Dos and don’ts on Karwa Chauth

The Sargi, given by mother-in-law to her daughter-in-law, contains food items to eat the early morning before keeping fast/ You need to give proper attention to the Sargi– It’s not just a form of customary, but also an inclusion of feed that women eat before sunrise. You should eat right so as to avoid dizziness, headache and other signs of weakness the whole day.

Protein and carbohydrates rich food takes a bit more time to digest, therefore if you eat the same in the morning before sunrise, it will keep you fuller for longer.

Avoid eating sweets and fried items like matthi, instead eat nuts, pulses or yoghurt.

To avoid the chances of dehydration, drink as much water as you can. You can take fruit juices as a helpful addition.

Avoid coffee and tea, as these beverages can develop the chances of acidity.

Do not take part in tenacious activities, and keep yourself busy with daily chores to distract yourself from weakness and hunger.

For pregnant women observing the fast can be a bit challenging. Pregnant women can observe a light fast that allows them to have milk, the whole day.

Just don’t rush towards eating the food at once after breaking the fast and performing the rituals. First, have a glass of water, and start with your meal slowly.
