The national capital’s parking fees are going to be double, according to a statement from the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC). Connaught Place and Mandi House are among the locations where the parking cost is being increased by fourfold.

The NDMC has raised parking fees for 91 public parking lots in the nation’s capital, including locations in central Delhi. The charge for parking has been increased from Rs 20 per hour to Rs 40 per hour.

Four-wheeler parking fees have been doubled, and as per the Delhi government’s anti-pollution GRAP II standards, the new charges went into effect on December 1 and will last until January 31, 2024.

Raising parking costs is primarily intended to encourage more people to use public transport, which will help Delhi’s pollution levels. After Delhi’s air quality stayed in the very poor category for several weeks, GRAP II was put into place.

Only a few weeks have passed since the parking fees in 38 public parking lots, including those in the south zone and at Kartavya Path, Khan Market, Sarojini Nagar, Chanakyapuri, INA, and Yashwant Place, were raised.

These prices are set to be in effect until January 31, 2024.

At the gates of each of the 91 locations where the revised tariffs will be applied, a notification about them will be posted. Previously, NDMC charged Rs 10 per hour and Rs 50 per day for two-wheelers, and Rs 20 per hour and Rs 100 per day for four-wheelers.

Additionally, NDMC has guaranteed that the increased tariff would only be in place temporarily and will be adjusted shortly.

The NDMC made a similar decision to raise parking fees four times across all of its parking lots in 2017.

On Monday, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi announced that it did not have any plans to increase parking costs and that no proposal had been submitted in this regard. An MCD official said, even though Stage II of GRAP recommends raising the parking fee, we would face difficulties implementing this.

Modi unveiled a giant Bhagavad Gita, running into 670 pages and weighing 800 kg, at the temple, located near Kailash Colony metro station.

Dubbed the ‘Astounding Bhagavad Gita’, and measuring 2.8 m by 2 m, it is billed as the “largest principle sacred text ever to be printed,” according to ISCKON.

“PM Modi boarded a train from Khan Market metro station on the Violet Line for reaching the venue,” a Prime Minister’s Office source said, adding he deboarded at Nehru Place.

Inside the coach, he interacted with common people and took selfies with them.

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), known colloquially as the Hare Krishna movement, is a worldwide confederation of more than 400 temples and runs 100 vegetarian restaurants and a wide variety of community serving projects.

Tight security arrangements has been made in and around the venue, which otherwise is very crowded.

“With an artistic touch of 18 exquisite paintings and an innovative elegant layout, the book has been printed in Milan, Italy, on YUPO synthetic paper so as to make it untearable and waterproof,” the ISKCON said.

Bhagavad Gita, often referred to as the Gita, is a sacred text, revered by the Hindus, and is part of the epic Mahabharata, containing the teachings of Lord Krishna to Arjuna on the battlefield.
