Janmashtami, also referred to as Krishna Janmashtami, Gokulashtami, Shrikrishna Jayanti, and Krishnasthami, falls on two consecutive days every year. This year the holy festival of Janmashtami will be observed on September 6 and 7. It falls during the month of Bhadrapad on the Krishna Paksha Ashtami Tithi. Religious beliefs are that Lord Shri Krishna was born in the Ashtami and Rohini Nakshatra of Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapada month.

Since then this day is celebrated as Krishna Janmashtami. On this day Krishna devotees visit temples, keep fast, dress traditionally, dress up Lord Krishna’s idols with new clothes and jewellery, adorn their houses and places of worship, make delicious foods, and more on this day.
