A tigress, who had killed 20 people in the last two years, has been captured by the forest team from Tikunia area of Lakhimpur Kheri. The tigress has been taken to Kartaniyaghat.

The tigress had killed a local priest Mohan Das (52) on June 18 and a 14-year-old boy Suraj Singh on June 23, both in Khairatiya area.

Mahant Mohan Das is the priest of Ram Janaki temple in Kharetiya village while the 14-year-old Suraj Singh was killed by tigress when he was grazing the animal.

The tigress has been continuously attacking people for the last 2 years, the villagers said.

The man, identified as Nagendra Singh was also mauled by the tiger late on Sunday night.

Terror of tigress in Manjhra Purab forest area has intensified since June 18 when a tiger- later identified to be a tigress- killed a local priest Mohan Das in his temple compound in Khairatiya.

Forest authorities said it was unusual in nature of the tigress to not only kill but also eat up the entire human body.

Assuming the tigress to be a threat to human lives, senior forest authorities including chief wildlife warden KP Dubey, PCCF, wildlife Kamlesh Kumar, chief conservator of forest and field director Dudhwa Sanjay Kumar Pathak, deputy director, Dudhwa buffer zone Sundaresh camped in Khairatiya area to neutralise the tigress’ terror.

UP chief wildlife warden KP Dubey permitted the Dudhwa authorities to trace and tranquilise the tigress.

The necessary arrangements were made to catch the man-eating tigress.
