In a land for job money laundering case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Saturday issued fresh summons to Bihar deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav. The Bihar deputy chief minister has been asked to appear for interrogation on January 5.

This alleged land for job scam took place between 2004 and 2009 when Lalu Yadav was the railway minister during the Congress-led coalition regime. The CBI has alleged that irregular appointments were made in the railways, violating the norms and procedures of Indian Railways for recruitment.

The Central Bureau of Investigation noted that those candidates who got the jobs as substitutes in the railways, either directly or through their family members and relatives sold land to Lalu Yadav’s family members at highly discounted rates. The investigation agency further claimed that the payments for the parcels of the land were mostly shown to be made in cash, while there were instances of transfer of land through gift deeds.

Nonetheless, the Yadav family has denied the allegations, stating the investigations to be the misuse of central agencies by the BJP-led central government. Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav was earlier called to appear on December 22 but he skipped the summons. Tejashwi Yadav has called the Enforcement Directorate notice, a routine affair.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief and Deputy CM’s father Lalu Prasad Yadav has been asked to depose on December 27 in the case at the Enforcement Directorate headquarters in the national capital.

The aforesaid scam pertains to the period when Prasad was the railway minister in the UPA-1 government. It is reported that from 2004 to 2009, several people were handed out Group D category jobs in various railway zones after they transferred land to the family members of the then railway minister Lalu Prasad and a linked company named A K Infosystems Private Limited.

Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Friday issued a summon to former Bihar CM and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav in Land for job scam case. The Avenue Court asked Lalu Yadav to appear on October 4 before the court.

There are other accused including former railway officials were too asked to appear before Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court.

Earlier in March this year, the CBI court granted bail to Lalu Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi and their daughter Misa Bharti in the purported land-for-jobs scam case.

Lalu Yadav arrived in a wheelchair for his first court appearance after a kidney transplant in Singapore three months ago.

Former Bihar chief ministers, Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi and their children, including their youngest son and current Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav had been accused of receiving land parcels in exchange for jobs during Lalu Yadav’s stint as Railway Minister from 2004 to 2009.

In its chargesheet, the Central Bureau of Investigation had claimed that Lalu made irregular appointments in violation of rules in the Railways and in exchange those employed by the former chief minister sold land to the Yadav family at dirt-cheap rates.

His family have been charged with criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery and corruption. According to a statement by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), the current market value of the land of the Yadav family’s allegedly ill-gotten land is approximated at Rs 200 crore.

Bihar Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav earlier moved the Delhi Court to challenge the summons issued by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for questioning in the alleged land-for-jobs scam.

Tejashwi in a petition said notice can only be issued to a person, who is situated within the local jurisdiction of that police station or is within the adjoining police station.

The plea argued that even though he was a resident of Patna, he was being asked to appear for questioning in Delhi, which is in violation of Section 160 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).

The Enforcement Directorate (ED), Friday, conducted searches at Delhi home of Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav in connection with the alleged land for jobs scam, in which the CBI has named his parents and former Bihar chief ministers, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi as prime accused.

As per reports, the ED is currently raiding over 15 locations in the case of alleged money laundering linked to the land for jobs scam involving Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family members.

Raids by ED sleuths are also currently being conducted at various locations across multiple cities in Bihar—including at properties owned by some Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) linked leaders— in connection with its ongoing investigation into the purported land for jobs scam.

Reports said the ongoing raids cover raids at the premises of some RJD leaders in Patna and Phulwari Sharif. RJD top brass and former Bihar Chief Ministers, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi were recently grilled by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the case.

The CBI chargesheet has named Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi and 14 others in the purported case which allegedly involves people being given employment in the railways in exchange for land parcels parcels gifted or sold at cheap rates to the Yadav family and its associates.

The accused have been charged of criminal conspiracy and provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and have been summoned on March 15. The ED, which probes financial crimes, has filed its case stemming from the same CBI complaint, under the criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

On March 7, Lalu Yadav, a former railway minister was questioned by the CBI, day after his wife and former Bihar CM Rabri Devi was grilled by the probe agency in the same case.

The CBI case, which names the Yadav couple and their daughters Misa and Hema, among others, is based on allegations that Yadav and his family members bought land at a discount in exchange for jobs while he served as Union Railway Minister from 2004 to 2009.

The Central Bureau of Investigation on Monday have reached the residence of former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi in Patna to question her about the land-for-job case. As per the reports, the probe agency has dismissed their actions to be a raid.

CBI court in Delhi last month had directed former several including Union railway minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Yadav, and his wife Rabri Devi, as well as his daughter Misa Bharti to present themselves before the court in the land-for-jobs scam case.

As per the reports, the FIR had accused that Lalu Yadav and his kins had bought lands for cheaper rates in return of giving jobs during his term as Union Railway minister. According to the CBI claims, Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family including 13 others used to give out jobs in return of land. The CBI, in their claims, also cited that the few candidates who were appointed into the railways used to give their lands to Bihar’s Former Chief Minster and his family.

The Delhi Court on Monday issued summons to former Union Railways Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Debi, their daughter Misa Bharti and 13 others in the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) scam case.

After taking cognizance of a charge sheet submitted in October of last year by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Rouse Avenue Court special judge Geetanjali Goel summoned the aforementioned people on March 15.

The CBI, in a chargesheet, accused former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav and 15 other people of taking land from 12 candidates in return for jobs in the Indian Railways during Lalu’s stint as Railways Minister between 2004 and 2009.

In its chargesheet on October 10, the CBI also named Lalu’s wife and daughter, former railways chief personnel officer Kamal Deep Mainrai; and former general manager of Central Railways, Soumya Raghavan. Seven aspirants were appointed as substitutes, and four private individuals have also been named in the charge sheet.

Hema Yadav, another daughter of Lalu, was named by the federal agency in its FIR in May last year, but her name was excluded from the charge sheet.

The Central Bureau of Investigation dismissed the case against Yadav and his family members earlier in 2021 after determining that there was no concrete evidence that could prove the allegations. However, the CBI once more reopened the corruption cases against the former chief minister in December of last year.

The CBI has charged the above-mentioned people under section 120B (criminal conspiracy) read with sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable documents), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged documents) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The accused are also booked under Sections 8 (bribing of a public servant), 9 (bribing a public servant by an organization), 11 (public servant obtaining undue advantage), 12 (abetment of offence), 13 (2) (criminal misconduct) read with section 13 (1) (d) of Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act, 1988 and substantive offenses thereof.

The court in its order said the action will be taken after taking cognizance of the matter.
