The price of Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders has been hiked by Oil Marketing Companies which are run by the Government. As per reports, the price of the domestic cylinder has been increased by 50 Rs, whereas the cost of the commercial cylinder has been hiked by 350 Rs.

The newly hiked prices announced by the Oil Marketing Companies have been enforced by the government since Tuesday.

The rates of domestic cooking gas change from one state to another owing to the state taxes. It is also reported that the prices of LPG gas are also influenced by the prices of crude oil in international markets.

Usually, the LPG prices are changed at the beginning of every month by the state-run Oil Marketing Companies. However, no revision came in the last month, due to which the market anticipated a price updation in the month of march.

Domestic LPG Cylinder Price increase

The price of domestic LPG cylinders has been hiked by Rs 50 in Delhi. The domestic LPG cylinder weighs about 14.2 kgs and in accordance to the updated price hike, a domestic LPG cylinder will cost Rs 1103.

Commercial LPG cylinder price hike

The price for the commercial LPG cylinder has also been increased by Rs 350.50 in Delhi. A commercial LPG cylinder weighs around 19 kg and now with the price hike, it will cost Rs 2119.50.

Previous price hikes

As per the reports, the last updation of the domestic LPG price was done in 2022 and it was increased 4 times. In January, the rates of commercial LPG cylinders were hiked by Rs 25 leading to the LPG cylinder costing Rs 1,768.

The recent price hike in commercial and domestic LPG cylinders will be a big blow to the pockets of many Indian households. It is reported that a mass of people uses LPG for cooking.

Hours after the news of a hike of Rs 50 in the price of a domestic LPG cylinder, the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday slammed the Centre’s BJP government over the hike in the price of domestic LPG cylinders

Reacting to the price hike, the West Bengal Bengal CM asked the PM Modi government to stop tormenting the people of India by regularly raising the prices of fuel, LPG cylinders and other essential commodities.

Taking to Twitter, Banerjee said that the Centre must immediately stop tormenting the people of India by repeatedly increasing fuel prices, LPG prices and prices of essential commodities. The BJP is actually conducting a great Indian loot and the people are being fooled, she wrote in her tweet.

Sad to see the media is silent and blind, Banerjee also wrote at end of her tweet.

Trinamool MP Sukhendu Sekhar Ray also said condemned the Centre’s regular hike in prices of fuel and LPG cylinders and urged other political parties to join the TMC protest against the recent hike in Bengal and across the country.

The price of domestic cooking gas has been increased by Rs 50 per cylinder on Saturday, the second increase in the last two months, taking the price to Rs 1,026 in Kolkata.

The price of an LPG cylinder varies across cities depending on the local taxes.

In a Facebook post, Rahul Gandhi alleged PM Modi government saying that the millions of Indian households are waging a difficult battle against extreme inflation, unemployment and poor governance.

Referring to the Congress-led UPA government, Gandhi said the price of an LPG cylinder was Rs 414 and a subsidy of Rs 827 was being given on every cylinder. Today, the cost of a cylinder is 999. The amount of subsidy given is zero, Gandhi said.

The domestic cooking gas cylinder has witnessed a surge in prices on March 22. The price of the LPG cylinder has been hiked by Rs 50. A 14.2-kg non-subsidized LPG cylinder will now cost Rs 949.50 in New Delhi whereas a five-kg LPG cylinder will now cost Rs 349 while the 10-kg composite bottle will cost Rs 669.

According to the reports, the 19-kg commercial cylinder will now cost Rs 2003.50. Prices of the cooking cylinder have been on a freeze since October 6 despite the cost of raw material spiralling. The price of commercial LPG has risen by Rs 275 per cylinder since October 2021. Domestic LPG prices had remained stable.

The customers in Kolkata will now have to pay Rs 976 for a 14.2 kg non-subsidized cylinder whereas Mumbai customers will have to pay Rs 949.50. In Chennai, the prices have been increased to Rs 965.50 and in Lucknow, it will now cost Rs 987.50.

The Indian Oil Companies have also released the price of petrol and diesel. The rate of fuel has been increased by over 80 paise a litre on Tuesday after a status quo on rates for four months. The price of petrol in Delhi is now Rs 96.21 per litre, the price of diesel is Rs 87.47 per litres. Whereas, in Mumbai, the price of petrol is now Rs 110.78, while diesel would cost Rs 94.94 per litre.

Talking about diesel, prices of diesel for bulk consumers have been raised by around Rs 25 per litre following a 40 percent hike in worldwide oil prices due to the current Russia-Ukraine conflict.

As the month of March started, the prices of revised LPG cylinders are out, and the new prices are surely going to burn a deeper hole in the pockets of Indian consumers. According to the recent notification, the cost of a commercial LPG cylinder has now been increased by Rs 105 in Delhi and it will be implied from March 1. Earlier, the national oil marketing companies slashed the prices of 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder cost by Rs 91.50 on February 1, but this time, it has been increased.

With the latest surge in prices, 19 kg commercial cylinder is going to cost Rs 2,012 in Delhi from Tuesday. On the other hand, the price of 5 kg cylinder has been increased by Rs 27. Now, the 5 kg cylinder is going to cost Rs 569 in Delhi. Whereas, the rates of domestic cylinders have remained unchanged, as of now.

Commercial gas cylinder rates city-wise:

In Mumbai, the commercial gas cylinder will cost around Rs 1,962. In Kolkata, the price of a commercial gas cylinder will be Rs 2,089. In Chennai, the price of a 9-kg commercial gas cylinder will be Rs 2,185.5

Before the month of February, the commercial LPG price witnessed a major hike in price for five consecutive months. The prices were hiked in November, October. However, according to the notification, there was an increase in the prices of domestic cylinders that weigh 14.2kg, 5 kg, 10kg composite or 5kg composite cylinders.

In other news, Gold price on the first day of March has surged by Rs 720 per 10 grams for 24 carats and it has increased by Rs 660 per 10 grams for 212 carats. Currently, the Gold price in India for 24 carats is Rs 51,280 per 10 grams while the gold price for 10 grams of 22-carat gold is Rs 47,000.
