The price of cooking gas LPG increased yet again and on Thursday it rose for the second time this month by Rs 3.50. This has taken the LPG cylinder prices across the country over the Rs 1000 mark.

It is reported that from today 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinders will now be available in Delhi and Mumbai for Rs 1,002 and in Kolkata for Rs 1,029. In Chennai, it will cost Rs 1,018,5.

On May 7, the gas prices were hiked by Rs 50 due to which the LPG cylinder cost crossed the 1,000-mark in several cities barring the national capital. However, after today’s hike, Delhi too has crossed the mark. According to reports, the domestic LPG cylinder in Delhi has gone up to Rs 1,003 from Rs 809.

Not only the domestic gas is expensive but there is also a price hike. The 19 kg LPG cylinder is now being sold for Rs 2,534 in Delhi. In Kolkata, it is being sold for Rs 2,454, in Mumbai, it is being sold for Rs 2,306, and in Chennai, it is being sold for 2,507.

Earlier this month, the price of commercial LPG cylinders – the one used by establishments like hotels and restaurants – was increased. On May 1, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder was increased by Rs 102.50 to Rs 2,355.50. Last year, the rate of the commercial cylinders went uop by Rs 750.

The price hike in cylinders came at a time when the Consumer Price Index-based retail inflation grew at 7.8 per cent in April, the highest since the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government assumed power in May 2014.
