Velupillai Prabhakaran, chief of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) terror outfit, is “alive and healthy”, Tamil Nadu nationalist leader Pazha Nedumaran claimed today, adding that the dreaded leader will soon make a public appearance, nearly 14 years after he was declared dead by the Sri Lankan government.

LTTE founder Prabhakaran led an extensive guerrilla campaign for a Tamil state in Sri Lanka after alleged systemic atrocities on Tamilians in the island nation, was reportedly killed by during a massive operation by the Sri Lankan Army to wipe out the LTTE.

On May 18, 2009, the Sri Lankan government led by then-President Mahinda Rajapaksa, had declared Prabhakaran, 54, was killed in the operation in Mullivaikal.

Following the announcement, the Sri Lankan government shared the photographs and videos of Prabhakaran’s alleged corpse, however, many claimed that they were doctored while others alleged that the LTTE supremo was shot dead in violation of international conventions when he came to surrender under a pact.

Speaking to the media at Thanjavur, Nedumaran, the president of the World Tamils Confederation, claimed that LTTE chief Prabhakaran is alive and will appear soon and announce his plans for Tamil Eelam.

Nedumaran said the timing of announcing Prabhakaran’s return was perfect as the fall of the Rajapaksa government after the “Sinhala uprising” in Sri Lanka has created a conducive situation, making this the right time for his appearance.

However, the Tamil leader did not share any details about the LTTE leader’s present location.

Prabhakaran was a prime accused in the assassination of former Congress Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in a suicide bombing at Sriperumbudur in 1991.

The LTTE supremo was also charged in other assassination cases in Sri Lanka while his organization was declared a banned terror organisation in the island country as well as India and the United States.
