Two were in critical condition after fourteen children suffered electric shock during a Mahashivratri procession in Rajasthan’s Kota on Friday. They were rushed to the MBS hospital in the city, as per the police.

According to reports, children were electrocuted from a high-tension power line passing overhead in the Sakatoura area under the Kunhari police station.

A senior police officer today said that two of the children sustained 100 and 50 percent burn injuries, respectively, while the rest 12 sustained less than 50 percent injuries. All the injured were rushed to the MBS hospital in Kota, he added.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Rajasthan Energy Minister Heeralal Nagar visited the hospital to meet the injured children today.

State Health Minister Heeralal Nagar expressed his sadness on the incident and said that two children were seriously injured with one having 100 per cent burns. A special team has been formed to provide all possible treatment, he added. Officials were directed to investigate if there has been any kind of negligence, Nagar further said.

Briefing the media on the incident, Kota SP Amrita Duhan said that the incident occurred between 11:30 am and 12 pm on Friday when the procession was marching through Kalibasti. People from the Kaali Basti were gathered here with their Kalash, and a child was carrying a pipe of 20-22 ft that touched the high-tension wire, she added. The priority is to give them proper treatment. One is in serious condition with 100 percent burns, SP Duhan informed.

In an attempt to save that child, all the children present there were electrocuted, she further said. An investigation has been initiated and if there has been any negligence from anyone, it will come out in the report, she added. Except for the one who is 25 years of age, the rest children are below 14 years old, she informed.

Bihar Police on Friday banned vulgar and obscene Bhojpuri songs for Mahashivratri and Holi. Instructions have been issued by the Bihar Police Headquarters to the DMs, SSPs, and SPs of all the districts on the same and stringent action will be taken against those who will upload obscene and provocative Bhojpuri songs on social media, reports said.

Reports further said special vigilance will be taken on festivals like Mahashivratri and Holi and songs that are casteist and hurt women’s sentiments.

The instructions said many casteists and vulgar Bhojpuri songs are surfacing on social media that are an insult to scheduled caste and women. And such singers are glorifying one caste and demean the other creating a possibility of deteriorating social harmony and the environment.

Following this, the Bihar Police Headquarters released the instruction on February 11 in the Bhojpur and Siwan districts and warned of strict punishment for the same.

The decision was taken in view of upcoming festivals like Mahashivratri and Holi and legal action will be taken against those who fail to follow the instructions, reports said.

Recently, violence erupted between two castes in Bihar’s districts of Arrah and Siwan after casteist Bhojpuri songs were played at an event. Reports said Bihar police failed to control the violence which is still prevailing in both districts.

The Bhojpuri music industry produced multiple songs every year and is often slammed for its vulgar lyrics and obscene videos.
