Maharashtra police on Sunday arrested a man for allegedly assaulting a male doctor and abusing a female attendant at Bhabha Hospital in Mumbai. The incident happened in the radiology department of the civic-run hospital.

Reports state Shahid Rashid Sheikh and his wife visited the hospital for sonography on Saturday afternoon. The official said the on-duty woman attendant asked him to not jump the queue and wait for his turn. However, Sheikh became aggressive and threatened the attendant with dire consequences.

Sheikh also slapped the doctor and hit him on his hands when he tried to intervene. As he tried to flee, security guards overpowered him.

They immediately called the police and informed them about the whole incident. Police rushed to the spot and arrested the accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) including 332 (causing hurt to an on-duty public servant), and 353 (assault on public servant).

This is not the first time that the doctor has been assaulted. Earlier in March, a man attacked the doctor for touching his wife while treatment. The doctor treated the lady and had to do some physical checks which required touching her. An infuriated Jamshed then manhandled the doctor giving him bruises and later accused him of misbehaving with his wife.

Last year in November, a woman doctor from Tamil Nadu’s Thiruvananthapuram was attacked by a man who was informed of the death of his wife.

The resident doctor from the neurosurgery department of the Thiruvananthapuram medical college hospital was kicked in the abdomen by the deceased’s husband, identified as Senthil Kumar.
