A bomb blast at Shiite mosque in the Afghan city of Kunduz has left several casualties today during Friday prayers, a senior Taliban official and witnesses said. At least 50 people were killed as Afghanistan had witnessed several attacks since the Taliban takeover in August. Taliban chief spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the Shiite mosque was the target and that a large number of worshippers were killed and wounded in the attack.

Nobel Peace Prize 2021 has been awarded to Maria Ressa and Dmitry Muratov for their efforts to safeguard freedom of expression in the Philippines and Russia.

The award was announced by Nobel Peace Prize committee chair Berit Reiss-Andersen and she said that Maria Ressa and Dmitry Muratov awarded the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize are representatives of all journalists who stand up for this ideal in a world in which democracy and freedom of the press face increasingly adverse conditions.

The official Twitter handle of The Noel Prize shared a post in which there is an illustration featuring Maria and Dmitry. They shared the illustration with a caption that reads, The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize to Maria Ressa and Dmitry Muratov for their efforts to safeguard freedom of expression, which is a precondition for democracy and lasting peace.

The audio was also shared in which Maria’s reaction can be heard, as soon as Olav Njølstad, Secretary of the Norwegian Nobel Committee told her that she is awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, she said that oh my god, she is speechless and she thanks them to award them with such prestigious award.

Maria Ressa is CEO of Philippines based news organisation Rappler. On the other hand, Dmitry Andreyevich Muratov is editor-in-chief of the Russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta.
