After the US remarks on the ongoing farmers’ protest, the India foreign ministry India has said that it is important to see such comments in their entirety. The incidents of violence and vandalism at the Red Fort during the Republic Day tractor rally have evoked similar sentiments and reactions in India as it did in the recent clashes at the US’ Capitol Hill, said the ministry.

On the ongoing farmers’ agitation, the new US administration had said it encourages that any differences between the parties be resolved through dialogue even as it backed steps that can improve the efficiency of India’s markets and attract greater investment. The peaceful protests and unhindered access to the internet are hallmarks of a thriving democracy, it added.

Taking note of comments of the US State Department, External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said India and US are both vibrant democracies. It is important to see such comments in the context in which they were made and in their entirety.

He said both India and the United States are vibrant democracies with shared values. The incidents of violence and vandalism at the historic Red Fort on the 26th of January have evoked similar sentiments and reactions in India as did the incidents on the Capitol Hill on the 6th of January and are being addressed as per respective local laws.”

Further, the MEA spokesperson clarified that the temporary measures with regard to internet access in certain parts of the national capital region were therefore understandably undertaken to prevent further violence.

Any protests must be seen in the context of India’s democratic ethos and polity, and the ongoing efforts of the government and the concerned farmer groups to resolve the impasse, he added.

The foreign ministry has also asked the US government for help in investigating the Sikhs for Justice, a Khalistani group and their secessionist campaign Referendum 2020. The request has been sent to the US Department of Justice. It also informed that the Delhi Police has registered a case over an overseas conspiracy behind the violence during the Republic Day tractor rally.

On the outbreak that sparked following Rihanna’s tweet on farmers’ protest, the foreign ministry had blamed vested interests in its official statement. It has suggested that the government would argue that the facts be ascertained, and a proper understanding of the issues at hand be undertaken before commenting on such matters.

India on Thursday has expressed its serious concern to Saudi Arabia over a new Saudi Arabia currency note which does not feature Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh as part of the country. The steps must be taken urgently to correct the wrong depiction of the country’s external territorial boundaries, asked the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to gulf nation who issued the new 20 Riyal banknote with global map printed on it.

The new 20 Riyal banknote was issued on October 24 by Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority to mark its nation’s presidency of the G20 grouping.

At a weekly media briefing, the MEA spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said that India has conveyed the message to Saudi Arabia, both through their Ambassadors in New Delhi and Riyadh for the gross misinterpretation of the country’s border on their legal banknote, asking Saudi side to take urgent corrective steps in the matter.

Srivastava further reiterated that the entire Union territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral part of India.

As per reports, the global map on the Saudi’s note does not even depict Pakistan-occupied- Kashmir including Gilgit-Baltistan as part of Pakistani territory. The exclusion of the PoK is being taken as a humiliation by many in Islamabad, since the country considers Saudi Arabia its closest ally.

However, in recent years, India has strengthened its trade ties with Saudi Arabia. In 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the nation, during which he met King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown prince and signed energy deals.

The close ties between the Gulf region and India can be attributed to the last year visit of Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman to India post Pulwama attack in February 2019.

On the other hand, Riyadh’s cut back on financial support for Islamabad has severely affected the relation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
