A massive fire broke out in a bus at the Memnagar station of Gujarat’s Ahmedabad on Friday morning. Several fire tenders rushed to the spot as soon as they received the information and evacuated all the passengers immediately.

Visuals from the scene showed a bus caught in a fire and huge plumes of smoke billowing from the bus.

A total of 25 passengers were travelling on the bus and all of them were evacuated safely. No injuries and casualties were reported.

According to the driver, the fire broke out in a bus due to an electric short circuit in the engine. He said when he saw smoke emitting from the engine, he quickly stopped the bus at the Memnagar bus stand.

The driver said he immediately alerted the commuters about the mishap and within minutes all passengers were evacuated safely with the help of the staff present at the bus stand. The fire then quickly spread to the bus stand soon after. He said the fire was brought under control after the fire brigade team reached the spot.

The fire was extinguished within an hour after police and fire personnel arrived at the site. The Ahmedabad Bus Rapid Transit System bus, however, was completely destroyed in the fire.

In a similar incident, a school bus carrying students caught fire in the Kharghar area of Navi Mumbai on Monday at around 11:30 am. With police officials and fire tenders reaching the spot immediately after receiving the information, the fire was doused within 15 minutes. No injury was reported.
