As many as eight Congress MLAs from Jharkhand have arrived in Delhi, demanding the removal of four party ministers in the Champai Soren-led JMM government, citing dissatisfaction over the induction of four party ministers.

A group of eight disgruntled MLAs in Jharkhand have threatened to boycott the upcoming assembly session if their demand for new faces in the cabinet is unmet. They argue that all divisions in the state should be represented and that the One-person, One-post rule should be implemented.

The Congress leadership has assured them that the issue will be discussed. The state chief Rajesh Thakur has stated that the legislators’ concerns are being looked into.

A large section of Congress legislators in Jharkhand were unhappy with the induction of four party MLAs as ministers in the recently expanded Jharkhand Cabinet. This has caused resentment to brew among them.

The MLAs of the Congress party were not satisfied with the decision to allocate ministerial positions to Alamgir Alam, Rameshwar Oraon, Banna Gupta, and Badal Patralekh once again.

The JMM-led alliance, consisting of 47 MLAs (JMM-29, Congress-17, and one RJD), holds the majority in the 81-member Assembly.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, the Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren met Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge at his residence in New Delhi.

Speaking to the media, he asserted that everything was absolutely fine. Further, rejecting any danger to the government, he said that this was the first time he met Kharge after forming a new government in the state. He rejected all the rumours of conflict in his government.

On being asked about Congress MLAs, he said that that was an internal matter of the Congress party and they would solve it on their own. Champai added that he has nothing to say about it. He also confirmed that there was no conflict between JMM and Congress and everything is absolutely fine.

Nearly two months after the Puducherry election results were announced, five ministers – two from BJP and three from All India NR Congress (AINRC), of the N Rangasamy-led coalition cabinet took over as the Chief Minister of Puducherry on Sunday.

Puducherry would get its first woman minister in over four decades with the induction of AINRC legislator Chandira Priyanga in the N Rangasamy-led coalition cabinet.

The swearing-in ceremony for the ministers held at 2.30 pm on Sunday in front of the Lt. Governor’s office and residence, Raj Nivas. Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan administered the oath of office and secrecy to five ministers — A Namassivayam and AK Sai J Saravana Kumar of the BJP and K Lakshminarayanan, C Djeacoumar and Chandira Priyanga from the AINRC — at the Raj Nivas.

This announcement ended the suspense over government formation on Friday after the long power-sharing talks between the AIl India NR Congress and the BJP concluded. This is the first time the BJP – which does not have much of a presence in the former French colony – is becoming part of the government

The development comes after President granted nod to the list of cabinet members submitted by Chief Minister Rangasamy to Lt Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Tuesday.

In the recently concluded Assembly election, the AINRC won 10 out of 16 seats it contested and the BJP managed six out of nine seats. However, the Congress, which ruled the state, had slipped to 2 from 15 while its ally DMK did better, winning six seats.

The BJP shares power as a junior partner in the AINRC-led government. The coalition also has the support of three nominated members belonging to the BJP.

Rangasamy submitted the list of the members to be included in his cabinet to Soundararajan on Wednesday. The AINRC founder Rangasamy was sworn in as Puducherry’s chief minister on May 7 and BJP’s Embalam R Selvam was elected unopposed as the Speaker of the 33-member assembly on June 16.

The AINRC-led alliance won the Puducherry assembly elections in the Union territory after the then Congress-led regime collapsed in February.

Infighting in the BJP and Rangaswamy’s Covid contraction a day after he took oath on May 7 were among the several reasons behind the delay in the cabinet formation. However, the negotiations between the AINRC and BJP over the number of cabinet berths also lead to the delay in cabinet formation.
