In a latest development in the Hyderabad gang-rape case, the police will appeal for an exemption to try juveniles as adults in this case. It will be the discretion of the Juvenile Justice Board to accept or reject the appeal.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand said that the police will seek this in court to ensure maximum punishment. He also said that otherwise a juvenile cannot be sentenced to more than three years in jail.

Notably, all the five minors, in this case, are between 16 and 18 years and one of the accused is one month of 18 years. It is reported that three of the minors are linked to powerful politicians.

There are a total of six accused in this case and of them, four are minors. All of them are known for having powerful contacts.

Who all are the accused?

Two are adults, they are- Omer Khan and Saduddin Malik. Four are minors, and of them, one is a son of a TRS leader, one is a son of a GHMC corporator, one is a son of a TRS corporator from Sangareddy, and one is a son of an AIMIM MLA. He is the one who will turn 18 on July 7, according to his Aadhaar card.

It is reported that the incident took place on May 28 when the girl and the attackers met at a party at a pub in Hyderabad’s upscale Jubilee Hills. The place of the party was booked by two minors for a party before the schools reopened. They made the booking at Rs 900 to Rs 1,000 per head and sold tickets for Rs 1,200 apiece.

The girl attended the party with a friend, and they left early but later met with the group, who assaulted her the same evening inside a Toyota Innova. The statement of the girl was recorded in front of a magistrate.
