The governments of Assam and Mizoram have agreed to resolve the long-lasting  inter-state boundary dispute through bilateral discussions after Thursday’s meeting.

During the meeting, representatives signed a joint statement to take all necessary measures to promote, preserve and maintain peace and harmony among people living in Assam and Mizoram, particularly those living on either side of the border. Meanwhile, Assam Border Protection and Development Minister Atul Bora told the media both the states have agreed to maintain peace along the inter-state border and both the states have welcomed deployment of neutral forces in the disputed areas and agreed not to send their respective police forces in any of the areas where confrontation and conflict has taken place between forces of the two states.

The joint statement was signed by Bora, Secretary GD Tripathi on behalf of Assam government and Mizoram’s Home Minister Lalchamliana and Home Secretary Vanlalngaihsaka. The joint statement also have agreed to take forward the initiatives taken by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and chief ministers of both states to de-escalate the prevailing tension.

Zoramthanga says let peace return as Assam withdraws advisory

The Assam government on August 5, after an hour of the meeting where both the government of Assam and Mizoram agreed to solve the inter-state border disputes, issued a fresh notification withdrawing the travel advisory issued on July 29. The travel advisory issued by Assam was in view of the critical situation that happened on July 26 between the two states, and advised the people of Assam not to travel to Mizoram as any menace to personal safety for the people of Assam cannot be accepted.  Meantime, the Mizoram CM Zoramthanga thanked the Assam government and said let peace return as the Assam government has revoked the travel advisory.

Mizoram offers government job to hockey star Lalremsiami from state

The 21-year-old Indian women’s hockey player Lalremsiami from Mizoram has been offered a government job, a plot of land in her hometown and a cash reward by the Mizoram Government for her performance at the Tokyo Olympics. The announcement was made by CM Zoramthanga on Friday. The Chief Minister tweeted that the government had sanctioned Rs 20 lakh for her preparation and another Rs 25 lakh reward for her participation at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. Even though the Indian Women’s Hockey team lost the bronze medal match to Great Britain, their strong spirit and performance in the Olympics was applauded by the country as the country for the first time has competed for a medal at the games.
