The Delhi BJP has stepped up pressure on Kejriwal-led AAP government in Delhi to accept its proposals to change the names of 40 localities in the city and Mohammadpur is one among the localities identified by the BJP in Delhi.

However, Delhi’s AAP government is yet to approve the MCD proposal to change the names of roads, localities and villages. The Delhi government has not responded to the Delhi BJP’s move.

South Delhi’s Mohammadpur village will be renamed Madhavpuram and the proposal for renaming the village was approved by the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) and the process was completed today, Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta, who has attended the event along with some locals to rename the area, said.

With the help of senior party leaders and locals, Gupta put up a board with Welcome to Madhavpuram written on it at the entrance of the village.

The move comes days after Adesh Gupta announced the BJP will send a proposal to the Delhi government to change the names of 40 villages, including Hauz Khas, Begumpur and Sheikh Sarai. In his proposal, he had written that these localities are the symbol of slavery. The party had been receiving lots of requests from these villages to change their names and will write to the mayors and commissioners of the corporations to initiate proposals to change their names, Gupta had said.
