10 members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Parliament, including two union ministers who emerged victorious in the assembly elections, resigned from the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, according to persons familiar with the situation.

Following their meetings with BJP President JP Nadda and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the ten MPs tendered their resignations. They went to the speaker’s office with the party president in tow, where nine MPs tendered their resignation. Kirori Lal Meena, the 10th MP, tendered his resignation to the chairman of the Rajya Sabha.

In Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh, state elections were won by 12 MPs, according to a BJP leader.

The ten MPs who have resigned are: Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Diya Kumari, Kirori Lal Meena (a member of the Rajya Sabha); Arun Sao and Gomti Sai from Chhattisgarh; and Narendra Singh Tomar, Prahlad Patel, Rakesh Singh, Uday Pratap Singh, and Riti Pathak from Madhya Pradesh.

Baba Balaknath, a Lok Sabha MP from Rajasthan, and Renuka Singh, a Chhattisgarh native who was elected as the union minister of state for tribal affairs, have not yet tendered their resignations.

The responsibility for agriculture is held by Narendra Singh Tomar, while the state minister for food processing and Jal Shakti is Prahlad Patel.

The fourth minister the BJP fielded in the state elections, Faggan Singh Kulaste, is the minister of state for steel and rural development, however he was unable to win the assembly seat.

These Members of Parliament are expected to tender their resignations, and there have been rumours of a potential reorganisation within the Union Council of Ministers.

In July 2021, the Union Council underwent its most recent major restructuring with the appointment of 43 ministers, comprising 36 new members. The most recent alteration occurred in May when Kiren Rijiju was replaced as law minister by Arjun Ram Meghwal, a minister of state. The position of minister for earth sciences was given to Rijiju.

In one giant swoop, the BJP has cornered entire Western and Central India with its latest victories in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan. The party now controls the entire cow belt giving it the right platform for 2024.

While Rajasthan was iffy for the Congress, it was overconfident in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, where a combination of weak and divided local leadership and women voters eventually brought it down. It has lost Madhya Pradesh 65-164 and Chhattisgarh 34-56.

ELECTION 2023 COVERAGE: Madhya Pradesh | Rajasthan | Chhattisgarh | Telangana

In many ways, these were elections driven by labarthis (beneficiaries) and the BJP proved itself with better planning, strategy and implementation. In Madhya Pradesh, Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched several schemes for women including cash incentives and even delivered two tranches of Rs 3000 each on Rakhi and Karwa Chauth to married women.

In Chhattisgarh, where the BJP was in the opposition, it adopted a better strategy by promising Rs 12,000 per annum to married women and later getting them to sign some forms which made the signatories believe they would receive the promised benefit later. BJP workers got more than 30 lakh forms signed and in a state with more women voters than men, it surely means something.

In MP, an overconfident Congress made a mess of ticket distribution. Digvijaya Singh grabbed the largest share and brought in all his 90s cabinet. Eventually, they all lost. It is perhaps time to get rid of Digvijaya and Kamal Nath altogether just like Uma Bharti was ex-communicated from the state by the BJP in 2007 after Shivraj became CM. It paved way for the new.

The loss in both states will hurt the party not only in the three states but its ramifications will be felt at national level with INDIA and other alliances.

]]>

On Friday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi travelled for the first time since being re-elected as a member of the Lok Sabha from his home in Delhi to his congressional district in Kerala’s Wayanad.

Rahul Gandhi’s membership in the Lok Sabha was reinstated on Monday by the Secretariat after the Supreme Court on August 4 delayed his conviction in the Modi surname remark case.

Rahul Gandhi would visit Wayanad on August 12, according to Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee Working President VT Siddique earlier on Tuesday. We have already started making arrangements for a cordial welcome for him. Tomorrow’s meeting of the district Congress Committee is scheduled. It will take place on August 12 and 13 with Rahul Gandhi in attendance.

Rahul Gandhi will receive the most joyful welcome in Wayanad history, Siddique continued.

Rahul Gandhi will attend the district party committee meeting on Saturday while in Wayanad. When he previously visited Kerala’s constituency while he was still disqualified, he stated that losing his MP tag would not prevent him from speaking up for the Wayanad community in Kerala or from raising concerns about the Union administration.

According to party sources, Rahul Gandhi has also reportedly been given a new address for the residence at 12 Tughlaq Lane.

In order to receive a bungalow as an MP in Delhi, Rahul Gandhi has received official confirmation from the Estate office, according to sources on Tuesday.

The Congress politician was found guilty and given a two-year prison sentence for his comments on the “Modi surname” on March 24, which resulted in his disqualification as a member of the lower house.

A day after the Surat Session Court issued a ruling on his interim motion for a stay of his conviction in the defamation case on April 20, the move to evacuate the house had been made. Since that time, Mr. Gandhi has resided at 10 Janpath Road, the home of Sonia Gandhi, the former president of the Congress.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Raghav Chadha, was attacked by a crow on Wednesday while taking on the phone in the Parliament.

A photographer for the news organisation was present outside the Parliament and captured the scene, as soon as the image was shared it quickly went viral online.

In the viral image, a crow can be seen swooping over Chadha’s head and pecking on the top of his head in a series of three to four photos taken as he left the House after watching Rajya Sabha sessions. Chadha was astonished, and when he realised it, he bowed.

The images were posted on Twitter by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Delhi handle, which also used the old Hindi proverb Jooth Bole Kauwa Kaate which translates as crow bites the liar, to mock the AAP leader.

Until today we had only heard, today we also saw, the crow bites the liar, wrote BJP Delhi in a tweet.

Netizens are alarmed by the message, which received more than 4,000 likes and almost 1,400 retweets.

In their replies, a number of Twitter users expressed concern about Chadha’s wellbeing. Additionally, a person added, that his heart is very upset. According to other Twitter users, it was a negative omen.

The BJP’s criticism comes as the Opposition tabled a resolution of no confidence in the government on Wednesday after demanding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi address the violence in Manipur within Parliament.

On Wednesday, Speaker of the Lok Sabha Om Birla accepted the notice of a no-confidence motion from the opposition Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA). However, the no-confidence vote poses no threat to the BJP administration because it has the backing of at least 332 Lok Sabha members.

Speaking of the no-confidence motion, Chadha remarked, critical tools of debate, conversation, and discussion within Parliament are frequently used throughout India’s parliamentary history. Regardless of how those instruments and motions turn out, their sole purpose is to have a lengthy discussion on a significant issue, after which the Indian Prime Minister is required to appear before Parliament and address the concerns raised by the public and Lok Sabha members.
