A man was arrested for the alleged rape of a 20-month-old baby girl in central Mumbai, police said.

As per reports, the shameful act was reported by the toddler’s parents who lodged a complaint against their neighbor on Sunday, accusing the man of allegedly raping their baby girl.

Reports quoting police officials said that the family, who live in a tenement, accused their neighbor, a 35-year-old man, of raping the infant when the parents were away a couple of days ago.

According to the police complaint, the parents suspected foul play after the toddler kept crying and constantly complained about being in pain.

A police official said that the accused has been arrested and an FIR under section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant provisions of the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was registered against him.

A 35-year-old man was arrested for raping a 14-year-old girl in Mumbai’s Ulhasnagar. It is reported that the incident took place in Ulhasnagar Railway Station on Friday night. The history-sheeter was arrested on Saturday evening.

According to reports, the man threatened the minor girl and her three friends with a hammer on the Ulhasnagar skywalk and later dragged her to an isolated room in the railway quarters. The 14-year-old suffered minor injuries and is undergoing treatment.

The accused allowed the minor to leave on Saturday morning after which she and her relatives went to the nearby local Hill line police station in Ulhasnagar, but the police said that they need to go to the Vithalwadi police station as there was a jurisdiction issue. The relative and the minor then went to the Vithalwadi police station but they directed them to Kalyan GRP, citing jurisdiction.

Around 2 o clock in the afternoon, they reached Kalyanpur GRP and then they were able to register FIR of rape and assault under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) and the Indian Penal Code.

The senior police inspector of Kalyan GRP, Valmik Shardul, said that they have arrested the accused for rape, assault and POCSO act sections. Notably, this is the second rape case this year that took place in the isolated railway quarter of Ulhasnagar. Earlier, a 27-year-old speech and hearing-impaired woman was brutally raped in the railway quarters at Kalyan.

Meanwhile, a 30-year-old woman who was raped, succumbed to injuries while she was undergoing treatment in Mumbai’s Rajawadi hospital after she was tortured with rods. It is reported that a member of the National Commission for Women will meet the family of the 30-year-old woman on Sunday.
