An event organised by Muslim Rashtriya Manch, an offshoot of RSS, in support of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) on Thursday was disrupted by anti-CAA protesters in Delhi’s Constitution Club of India. The protesters held banners and raised slogans against the citizenship law and National Register of Citizens (NRC) at the event.

Indresh Kumar, a national executive member of the RSS, was also present during the event.

The event was organised to counter the anti-CAA protests going on in the entire country and specifically in Delhi.

Vishwa Hindu Parishad working President, Alok Kumar, accused the protesters of creating ruckus at the event and not engaging in a debate. “Some people believe that freedom of speech is only for them,” he said.

In the national capital Muslim dominated areas such as Shaheen Bagh, Khujeri and parts of old Delhi are regularly witnessing protests. The sit-in protest is going on in South-east Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh for over a month now. These protests have primarily been led by women, they have braved the cold weather and rains as well.

Earlier in the day Delhi Police forcefully evicted women protesting against CAA from Turkman Gate area in central Delhi. Police razed the tents and detained around 7 people, who were later taken to Rajinder Nagar Police Station.

In several cities in Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Assam, the peaceful protests turned violent. Over 18 people have been killed in UP and four in Assam.

The citizenship law which received President Ram Nath Kovind’s assent last year, has been described as “unconstitutional” by opposition parties and Human Rights activists. According to the, the law excludes Muslims from being a part of the law that provides citizenship to refugees from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Formed after the infamous Godhra-riots of 2002, Muslim Rashtriya Manch is the Muslim-wing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
