Karnataka Court has banned the sale and distribution of a book written on Tipu Sultan. The Additional City Civil and Sessions Court of Bengaluru gave this decision on Tuesday while hearing the petition of BS Rafiullah, former chairman of the District Waqf Board Committee.

The petition has sought a ban on the sale of the book alleging that it contains false information about Tipu Sultan. The court issued a temporary injunction to stop the sale of the book Tipu Nija Kansugalu written by Adanda C Cariappa, the director of Rangayana, published by Ayodhya Prakashan and printed by Rashtrotthan Mudralaya.

The Karnataka Court said in its order on Wednesday that the defendants and agents claiming to sell the book are hereby granted a temporary injunction to publish online the book ‘Tipu Nija Kansugalu’ (Tipu Nija Kansugalu) written in Kannada language. It is forbidden for them to even sell or distribute the book on any other medium.

Rafiullah, the petitioner has claimed in his petition that wrong information has been published in the book, which is neither supported nor justified by history. Rafiullah has also said that the word turukaru used in the book is a derogatory term for the Muslim community. They have argued that the publication of this book is likely to spread unrest and communal disharmony on a large scale.

Accepting Rafiullah’s submissions, the court observed that the contents of the book are false and contain false information about Tipu Sultan. The sessions court also said that if the book is distributed, it would cause irreparable harm to the plaintiff and communal peace and harmony. The court said that the very object of the petition would be defeated if the book is distributed without the appearance of the respondents in the matter.
