Former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on Sunday compared the US Capitol violence with Nazi Germany and appealed for peace and unity. He described the violence as an attempted coup by President Donald Trump.

The Hollywood star posted a video on twitter where he compared the Capitol attack by Trump supporters to Kristallnacht, or the Night of Broken Glass, when Nazis carried out pogroms in Germany in 1938 that included breaking the windows of Jewish-owned stores. Schwarzenegger said Wednesday was the Day of Broken Glass right here in the United States.

Schwarzenegger said the broken glass was in the windows of the United States Capitol. He said while growing up, he was surrounded by broken men, drinking away their guilt over their participation in the most evil regime in history, he continued.

He said he has never shared this so publicly because it is a painful memory, but his father would come home drunk once or twice a week and he would scream and hit them and scare his mother. He did not say his father was a Nazi, but said his father and neighbors were misled with lies. The Terminator actor said President Trump sought to overturn the results of a fair election and attempted a coup by misleading people with lies, Schwarzenegger said.

He went on saying that President Trump is a failed leader and will go down in history as the worst president ever and compared him with an old tweet, saying he will soon be irrelevant. He wished great success to President-elect Joe Biden.
