The National Cadre Corps (NCC), the youth wing of the Indian Armed Forces and the world’s largest uniformed youth organization is celebrating the 73rd anniversary of its foundation on November 28.

NCC is open to school and college students on a voluntary basis, which helps the organization to recruit students from schools, colleges and universities. All cadets are given the training at the lower basis of the military training footprints and given the commitment to join the military, they are preferred in the further recruitment of the soldiers in services.

Here are some of the interesting facts about the National Cadre Corps (NCC):

1. NCC is the largest voluntary uniformed youth organisation that enrols cadets, for all the three defence wings namely Army, Navy and Air Force.

2. The organization’s main motto is ‘unity and discipline’

3. There is not any gender bias to join NCC as girls are also allowed and are treated at par with boys.

4. Our PM Narendra Modi was once an NCC cadet.

5. The NCC cadets were the 2nd line of defence during the Indo-Pak wars of 1965 and 1971.

6. Three colours of the NCC flag represents the 3 services in the corps – red for the Army, deep blue for Navy and light blue for the Air Force.

7. NCC cadets are given basic military training for parades and handling small arms.

8. NCC works on four cardinal principles which are:

Obey with a smile

Be Punctual
