The National Eligibility Cumulative Entrance Test (NEET) 2021 Undergraduate Counselling for all India quota (AIQ) seats, which generally begins in October-November, has been postponed this year.

According to a statement issued by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) on December 10, a case involving the 27% reservation for OBC students and 10% reservation for EWS students in AIQ medical seats is awaiting in the Supreme Court and is expected to be heard on January 6 next year, implying that NEET counselling 2021 will proceed following the superior court’s decision on the case.

According to the MCC statement, the candidates who are willing to take part in NEET-UG 2021counselling should be informed that the matter is under challenge in the Supreme Court of India.

10 per cent of EWS reservations and also, 27 per cent of OBC reservations to medical seats are decided by the central government to extend under the central pool. This issue was called into question in front of the Supreme Court.

Earlier, the Supreme Court pointed out the rationale of fixing 8 lakh rupees for the EWS category annual income.
