After being criticised by thousands of customers over a recent accident, where Tata’s one of the hot-selling product Nexon EV caught fire in Mumbai, the government took the matter into their hands and on Friday ordered an independent inquiry for the same.

A senior Road Transport and Highways Ministry official said it is very unfortunate to witness one of the hot-selling EV products from the Tata caught the fire. He said a team has been appointed for investigating the matter. The report said that the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), which was earlier given the task to investigate the recent Ola’s electric two-wheeler fire incidents by the Union Road Transport and Highways Ministry, will be leading the probe of the Nexon EV fire accident too.

As of now the cause of the fire accident in Nexon EV is not known yet, but there are reports that revealed that due to the defects in the batteries the vehicle caught the fire. The report also revealed that the recent fire incident with electric two-wheeler manufacturers like Okinawa Autotech, Pure EV, Jitendra Electric Vehicles, Ola Electric, and Boom Motors also used the lower-grade materials in the vehicle to cut costs which leads such accidents.

Reacting to the incident, Tata also released an on Thursday under which it said that the incident which has been reported yesterday from Vasai West (near Panchvati hotel) in Mumbai late on Wednesday is being investigated. The firm said that the team of experts is investigating the matter and the company will share a brief detail soon once the investigation gets over. We remain committed to the safety of our vehicles and their users, the company said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Tata Nexon EV is one of the highest-selling EV cars in India. As of now, the company sells at least 2,500-3,000 units a month in the country.
