With the opposition in Bihar already in disarray, the politics among the constituents of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the state is what is expected to generate heat ahead of the elections later this year. With Ram Vilas Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party demanding more seats than earlier and the Janata Dal (United) of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar not too keen to part from its share of seats, the BJP is trying to pacify its two key allies.

BJP president JP Nadda and BJP national general secretary Bhupendra Yadav met Nitish Kumar at his residence in Patna on Saturday. Nadda is on 2-day visit to Patna.

Earlier, LJP patron and union minister Ram Vilas Paswan said he will stand firmly with whatever decision his son and LJP chief Chirag Paswan takes on the future of the party. In a series of tweets, Ram Vilas Paswan said he was confident with his son’s wishes to grow the party in the state.

Chirag Paswan had hit out at the Nitish-led NDA government over its handling of the Covid-19 situation, followed by the crisis posed by the return of lakhs of migrants from all across the country. The readmittance of former Bihar CM Jitan Ram Manjhi into the NDA fold seems to have irked the Paswans since it could impact the number of seats the LJP can contest on within the NDA seat-sharing umbrella.

The BJP has tasked former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis with managing the party’s campaign in Bihar. In a media interaction, Fadnavis said only a government which can work with the Narendra Modi government at the Centre can take Bihar forward, unlike a government having differences such as the West Bengal government.

The Opposition, comprising the Rashtriya Janata Dal, the Congress and the Left parties, had accused the ruling alliance of utilising the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput as a poll issue since Rajput was brought up in Bihar.
