The under-construction Noida International Airport is likely to commence its trial in late February or early March in the coming year. The international airport is being constructed at Jewar, located close to Noida and Greater Noida. The major objective of the Noida International Airport is to facilitate worldwide connections to the citizens in Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh while alleviating congestion at the national capital’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The move to commence the trial next year was taken in a meeting, according to NBT. Reports stated that the final timeframe for making the airport operational will be notified following the handover of the air control tower. Nearly 6000 construction workers have been dedicated for the construction of the Noida International Airport.

In addition, several big infrastructure projects are being planned around the airport for the authorities in an effort to convert the area into an economic powerhouse. These proposals include connecting the airport to key highways through dedicated link roads and connecting the airport to the Delhi railway station with the metro trains.

According to reports, almost 55 per cent of the airport’s building work has already been completed. The ATC tower and the runway are projected to be completed by December 2023, followed by a 6 to 8 month trial phase. The Noida International airport operational date is scheduled for October 24. The first phase of the airport is under development at present.

Furthermore, the concerned authorities aim to construct a high-speed metro link between the under-construction Noida International Airport in Jewar and Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. As per the Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) authorities, the 72 km long Airport Express Line high-speed metro project might only have six stops to ascertain a swift trip.

Earlier, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had planned 12 stations along the corridor, which will run from the New Delhi metro interchange, where the Airport Express Line starts, to Noida airport in Jewar.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday laid down the foundation stone of Noida International Airport, near Jewar in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddh Nagar district and called it the logistics gateway for North India.

Construction work for the airport has begun, and its operations will begin by 2024 before the next General Elections. Once it becomes operational, Uttar Pradesh will have 5 international airports, the highest for any state in India.

The airport will be spread over 1,334 hectares of land and will have a capacity to serve around 1.2 crore passengers.

Keeping in mind the farmers protest and farm laws rollback, PM Modi said the Noida airport would help them export their vegetables, fruits and produce directly to the world.

Commenting on land acquisition for the airport, PM Modi said he used to see many projects where land was taken from farmers, and neither were they compensated properly nor did the projects kick-off. The government has taken all their decisions keeping in mind India’s progress, farmers’ betterment, project and regional betterment, he said.

Days before PM Modi’s visit, the Jewar airport were ran into controversy over protests from farmers who have camped in tents barely 700 metres from the airport. The farmers were claimed that they were either not paid or not given alternative houses, as promised.

Taking a swipe at the opposition ahead of next year’s UP election and the 2024 Lok Sabha election, PM Modi said developing India is politics for the opposition.

The Uttar Pradesh government claimed that the project would create more than one lakh job opportunities. The airport will also be the country’s first net zero emissions airport.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who was personally monitoring the preparations of PM Modi’s jewar visit, said the project will benefit entire UP, particularly Gautam Budh Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Hapur and other adjoining areas. The airport will make travelling easy for residents of East Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Greater Noida, Meerut and nearby west UP districts, he also said.

The construction of airport in Uttar Pradesh was one of the promises made by the BJP, who is eying a return to power in Uttar Pradesh in next year’s assembly elections.

The first phase of the aerodrome is being done at a cost of more than Rs 10,050 crore, and the ground work regarding land acquisition and rehabilitation of the affected families has been completed, an official release said on Tuesday.

The airport at Jewar will help decongest the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in the national capital. It is strategically located and will serve the people of cities including Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Aligarh, Agra, Faridabad and neighbouring areas, the release said.
