The body of a woman nurse was found hanging from the wall of a private nursing hospital in Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.

The victim’s family has claimed that the woman was raped and then murdered. The family has also named three people as accused including the administrator of the nursing home.

On the basis of the complaint of the victim’s mother, the Unnao Police has registered an FIR against the three accused.

Briefing to media about the incident, Unnao’s Additional SP Shashi Shekhar Singh said a woman’s dead body has been found at New Jeevan Hospital and a post-mortem has been ordered to ascertain the circumstances of death.

The family has alleged that the woman was raped and then killed. An FIR against three people has been filed and strict action will be taken against them, the Unnao Additional SP said.

However, an investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of death.

The woman was a nurse and it was her first day at work on Friday, the reports said.

Videos showed people taking pictures as the body lay hanging and the policemen went about deciding how to bring it down.

Unnao district of Uttar Pradesh has seen some heinous crimes against women over the past few years.

Former BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar was sentenced to life imprisonment after he was convicted of raping a minor girl in 2017. He had also assaulted her father, leading to his death.

In August 2019, a girl and her mother tried to immolate themselves at the office of Unnao’s District Magistrate after no arrests were made following her allegation that she was gang-raped.

In December 2019, a 23-year-old woman died after she was set on fire by the men accused of raping her.
