Former India cricketer Mohammed Kaif has alleged that India doctored the ODI World Cup final pitch against Australia in Ahmedabad. He also blamed Captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid for team India’s 6 wicket defeat. India had reached the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup with an unbeaten run, having won 10 matches in a row.

After having been asked to bat first in the final at the Narendra Modi stadium on November 19, 2023, a majority of Indian batsmen failed miserably as they were dismissed for 240. Kaif said he was there for 3 days. Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid inpected the pitch everyday for 3 days ahead of the Word Cup final. He said they stood beside the pitch for an hour every day.

He saw the pitch change its colour. There was no watering the pitch, no grass on the track. India wanted to give Australia a slow track. Kaif said this is the truth even if the people don’t want to believe it. He said many people say that curaters do their own thing and they are not influenced. He said this is all rubbish.

He said when the players are moving around the pitch every day, they don’t have to do anything but to utter just two lines- Please don’t put water, just reduce the glass. He said this happens and it is the truth. He said but the Indian team took a little bit too much advantage of it.

 Travis Head (137) and Marnus Labuschagne (58*) helped Australia chase down the target with 7 overs to spare to clinch the title for the 6^th time. ICC pitch consultant Andy Atkinson exited the ODI World Cup just ahead of the World Cup final due to differences with the BCCI on how the pitch should be for the summit clash.

Former captain of India, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, believes that a key distinction between the Indian teams of 2011 and 2023 is the mentality of the players. India won its only ODI World Cup in 2011 at home, led by captain Dhoni, who hit the game-winning six over long-on off Nuwan Kulasekara in the Wankhede Stadium against Sri Lanka.

Twelve years later, the current team, led by Rohit Sharma, is progressing well in the ODI World Cup 2023 and is once again a strong contender for the national championship. Surprisingly, every host team that has won the prized trophy since the 2011 World Cup has done so.

India leads the table with a maximum of 10 points after winning each of their first five games in the current season. The mindset of winning the World Cup in 2011 was for Sachin Tendulkar, which is the only thing separating the two teams, he said.

The two teams are very different from one another. The Indian team that won the World Cup in 2011 was far more cohesive. Their goal was to contribute to Sachin Tendulkar win the World Cup. He was highly respected by others, Dhoni said during an interview.

Dhoni further said, he is not sure about this team. Don’t know who all want to win the World Cup for Virat Kohli. They undoubtedly want to win for India, though. This is a significant difference, Dhoni continued.

Dhoni is the only captain in history to have won the ICC Champions Trophy, ODI World Cup, and T20 World Cup.

The 42-year-old praised the current Indian team and said they had outstanding balance. It’s an excellent team. Team ka bohot accha balance hai. Harlog acha khel rahe hain, which translates, the team has excellent balance. Every player is performing admirably.

Dhoni said, everything appears to be going well. Isse zyada main kuch nahi bolunga, baaki samajhdaar ko ishara kaafi hai, which translates, I won’t say anything more than this. This is the main reason why it isn’t possible to go. The signal is sufficient for the wise.

Just a day before the start of the ODI series against Sri Lanka, Team India has suffered a major setback. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who is returning after injury, is now out of this ODI series. Jasprit Bumrah was not made a part of this series earlier, but later he was included in the squad. Now once again he has been dropped from the team.

According to reports, Jasprit Bumrah has not yet reached Guwahati with the rest of the players where Team India has to play the first ODI on January 10. The ODI team was changed by the BCCI on January 3, when Jasprit Bumrah was included in this series against Sri Lanka. During that time it was felt that Jasprit Bumrah is fully fit and ready to play.

But keeping in mind the ODI World Cup, BCCI does not want to take any risk. This is the reason why Jasprit Bumrah has been kept out of the series at the last moment, so that there is no haste and he gets full time to recover.

Notably, Rishabh Pant is already injured due to a car accident and there is still doubt about his participation in the World Cup.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) held a meeting on Sunday. All the senior officials of the board participated in this meeting, which included BCCI President Roger Binny, Secretary Jay Shah, Captain Rohit Sharma, Head Coach Rahul Dravid, National Cricket Academy chief VVS Laxman and former chairman of the selection committee Chetan Sharma.

Several major decisions were taken in this meeting. However, everyone’s main objective was regarding the preparations for the 2023 ODI World Cup, which will be held in India this October.

In view of the ODI World Cup, there was a lot of discussion on the workload management of Indian players. It was decided in this meeting that some important players can be rested in IPL 2023 so that they are fully ready for the big ICC tournaments. Many important players of India are troubled by injury. In such a situation, the pressure of playing continuous cricket and IPL can further affect their mental and physical health. However, the BCCI has taken cognizance of the matter.

Important players will step aside from IPL

The Board of Cricket Control in India resolved that if there is a possibility of injury to the important players, then they will be kept away from the IPL. Also, a pool of 20 players has been created, and the team for the ODI World Cup will be selected from this pool only. Also, the NCA and the IPL franchise will jointly monitor the fitness of those players. If the NCA feels that the player may be injured, then he will be barred from playing in the IPL, from that pool of 20 players.

Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli had raised this issue in 2019

This is not the first time that a proposal related to IPL and injury has come before the BCCI. The same proposal was put before the BCCI in 2019 by then captain Virat Kohli. Kohli had asked the Board to manage the workload of some key players ahead of the 2019 World Cup. However, then BCCI didn’t pay much attention to this plan and now after 4 years, the same plan is being implemented.

What did Kohli say about workload management three years ago?

Virat Kohli said before the start of IPL 2019 that World Cup comes every four years and Indian players play IPL every year. In such a situation, attention should be paid on the mental and physical health of some important players. Then the BCCI had rejected these things and did not pay attention. The result was that the Indian team had to face defeat in the 2019 ODI World Cup, 2021 World Test Championship, 2021 T20 World Cup and 2022 T20 World Cup too.

With only few months left for the ODI World Cup 2023, Team India is tuning into the ODI mode. Men In Blue have reached Bangladesh for the 3-match ODI series and have started the prep in Dhaka. After their T20 World Cup debacle, Rohit Sharma and co are back for their last bilateral series of 2022. The first IND vs BAN encounter from the three-match series will take place on Sunday.

Team India along with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma had reached Dhaka on Thursday. After a very short journey, the Men in Blue have start their preparations from today. Players like Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant and others will reach Dhaka by today evening as their New Zealand tour got over. Meanwhile, for the first time since July, India will have their full ODI squad.

While the Indian superstars had resumed training back home, they will be hitting the nets on Friday to assess the conditions. Rahul Dravid’s team has been dominating in the subcontinent. Therefore, they are expected to catch on to the surface quickly. The onus will be on Rohit, Rahul and Pant to score some runs in the series as they failed to do so in T20 World Cup 2022.

Also, the bowling has no straightforward solution and neither can add to the puzzlement of Rohit. Hence, the training sessions have been scheduled to provide clarity to the team management as well.
