Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia slammed the Congress party for not doing anything for backward classes during 70 years of its rule. He added the Congress party even opposed reservation for people of the backward classes. The Civil Aviation Minister was talking to the media in Gwalior on Friday.

His statement comes in response to Rahul Gandhi remark Jitni aabadi, utna Haq after the Bihar government’s caste survey report revealed the Other Backward Classes and the Extremely Backward Classes form 63 percent of Bihar’s population. Scindia added the Congress party did not do anything for the upliftment of the backward classes in 70 years of its rule.

He said when a commission submitted a report on the backward classes when Morarji Desai was the Prime Minister, the Congress opposed it. Scindia added the VP Singh government implemented reservation for the backward classes. This was also opposed by the Congress party.

He said PM Modi has been actively working for the backward classes, scheduled tribes, scheduled castes and backward classes. The Aviation minister said 60 percent members in PM Modi’s cabinet belong to the backward classes. He said the Modi government had given 27 percent reservation to the OBC’s.

Scindia added the Congress party is trying to bring a new issue at the time of elections but the the truth is the party did not do anything for the backward classes during 70 years of its rule at the centre. The Union Minister is confident that the BJP would form a government in Madhya Pradesh after the state elections which are going to be held soon. Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi had said at a public meeting in Shajapur district in Madhya Pradesh it would conduct a caste based census to know the exact number of other Backward classes (OBC’s) people in the country.

The former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and Bahujan Samaj Party Chief Supremo Mayawati has criticized the Central government for announcing a 27% quota for Other Backward Classes (OBC), 10% for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in all medical and dental courses.

Mayawati claimed that the decision of reservation has been made for political and electoral gains.

The BSP chief tweeted that, declaration of the OBC quota in UG and PG seats of All-India Government Medical Colleges in the country is a very late step. If the central government had taken this decision in advance, they would have benefited a lot by now, but now people think this decision was taken for political interest.

Although the BSP has been continuously demanding to fill the backlog posts of SC, ST, and OBC quota in government jobs for a long time, the governments of other states, including the Centre and UP are constantly indifferent towards the real interest and welfare of these sections, which is very sad, BSP chief tweeted.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that his government has declared reservations for Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) in all medical and dental courses under the All India Quota Scheme for undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

Calling it a landmark decision, PM Modi said it will immensely help thousands of Indian youths every year creating a new paradigm of social justice in the country. The Union Health Ministry estimated that nearly 5,550 students will be benefitted from the decision. The government is committed to providing due reservation both to Backward Category and EWS Category, the Ministry said.   

This decision will be applicable to the students of courses like MBBS, BDS, MD, MS, MDS, and diploma medical courses from this academic year. Around 5,500 seats will be reserved in all for the communities thanks to this order.
