A special court in Hyderabad on Wednesday acquitted the AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi’s brother and Telangana MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi in two separate hate speech cases registered against him.

Amid heavy security arrangements across the state, a special Hyderabad court has pronounced its judgment in two cases that took place ten years ago in 2012 when Owaisi was booked for two controversial provocative comments.

While delivering the verdict on AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, the court dismissed the case against him and asked him not to make such provocative statements, which is not good for the country. The cases were dismissed for the lack of sufficient evidence, Owaisi’s lawyer told the reporters after the hearing.

The MP/MLA court in Hyderabad had earlier posted the matter for judgment on Tuesday after completion of arguments by defence and prosecution and deferred the verdict to Wednesday.

Akbaruddin Owaisi, the younger brother and the two-time MLA from Chandrayangutta is holding the position of Legislative Party leader while Asaduddin Owaisi is the floor leader of the AIMIM in the Telangana Assembly.

The two separate cases were registered against him over alleged hate speeches delivered by him at Nizamabad on December 8, 2012, and Nirmal town on December 22, 2012, respectively.

The younger Owaisi was booked under IPC Sections 120-B (Criminal Conspiracy), 153-A (promoting enmity between two groups based on religion) and other sections. However, over 30 witnesses have been examined in each case. After spending 40 days in jail, he was granted bail by a court.

The acquaintance of Akbaruddin Owaisi will be a big relief for his brother Asaduddin Owaisi who has been targeted by the media for his brother’s speeches that he had given 10 years ago.
