Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a roadshow at Palakkad in Kerala on Tuesday that witnessed the participation of thousands of BJP workers and supporters. He reached Palakkad around 10:30 am, held a roadshow of over 30 minutes in the city. The roadshow started after 10:45 am from Kottamaidan anchuvilakku, proceeding towards the head post office in the city.

BJP state president K Surendran, BJP Palakkad candidate C Krishna Kumar and candidate of the adjacent Ponnani constituency, Viveditha Subramanian, also accompanied the prime minister in the open vehicle. Supporters present at either side of the road showered the prime minister with flowers and slogans supporting Modi and BJP.

Ahead of PM Modi’s roadshow, the Bharatiya Janata Party held a bike rally in the town on Monday evening. Modi’s Pallakkad roadshow follows his recent participation at a public meeting in Pathanamthitta town on March 15, where he rallied support for NDA candidates contesting in the southern Kerala constituencies.

Addressing a public gathering in Pathanamthitta, PM Modi said the Lotus is going to bloom in Kerala in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and attacked the ruling Left and the opposition Congress-led UDF, alleging that the people of the state have endured hardship under government plagued by corruption and incompetence.

In Kerala both LDF and UDF engage in apparent conflict but unite in Delhi. The Congress labels the Left government as fascist, while the Communists criticize Congress for Corruption. Yet they form alliances in the capital. He said both parties have deceived Kerala extensively. Kerala’s populace has now seen through this deception.

The prime minister has visited Kerala several times this year. He has also paid visits to famous temples in Kerala. Earlier on Monday PM Modi visited Karnataka’s Shivamogga and Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. He attacked the Congress ruled government in the state and said the Congress leaders are only capable of telling blatant lies.

In a gruesome incident, a 21-year-old youth in Kerala was killed by his cousin because he got late in feeding the latter’s pet dog. An incident is reported from Mulayankavu in the Palakkad district of Kerala.

According to the reports, the deceased Arshad, a resident of Perumbrathody, and his 27-year-old cousin Hakeem, a resident of Palappuzha, used to live at a rented house at Athani in Mannegode in the Palakkad district.

On Friday morning, Hakeem took Arshad to a private hospital at Vaniyankulam where he told the doctors that he had fallen from the roof of their house. But doctors found it suspicious as Arshad had over one hundred injury marks on his body. The hospital authorities immediately informed the Koppam Police Station.

Koppam Sub-inspector M B Rajesh, District Police Chief of Palakkad R Viswanath, and Shoranur Deputy Superintendent of Police V Suresh reached the hospital along with a team of police officials.

Arshad succumbed to his injuries despite receiving medical treatment. According to the medical examination, the doctors determined that internal bleeding was the cause of Arshad’s demise because the doctors said the injury marks on his body could only have been caused by striking him with a belt and a wooden item.

On Friday night, Hakeem was arrested by the police, and by Saturday night, he had been interrogated and arrested.

During interrogation, Hakeem stated that he and Arshad used to stay at a rented house in Athani and were working as cable workers for a private mobile telecom company. The police stated that Hakeem used to thrash Arshad regularly for no reason and this time he beat him for being a little late in feeding his dog.

According to the reports, Hakeem first hit him with a dog belt and as well as a piece of wood. After he fell on the ground, Hakeem kicked his back, fracturing his ribs. As a result of the beatings, the victim died from internal bleeding.

The investigations into this matter are underway.

According to the police, the youth, identified as Madhu, was severely beaten by the mob – which accused him of theft – in a forest in Kerala’s Palakkad district.

In yet another instance of brutal lynching in the country, a 27 year old “not of sound mind” was beaten to death in Kerala by a mob which accused him of theft. Triggering widespread outrage across the state, a selfie of a man with the tribal youth whose hands were tied up went viral on social networking platforms.

According to the police, the youth, identified as Madhu, was severely beaten by a group of people in a forest in Kerala’s Palakkad district. Though the mob, alleging Madhu of stealing, handed him over to the police after brutally beating him up, the 27-year old died on his way to the hospital.

Malli, the grieving mother of the slain youth said, “It was yesterday (Thursday) evening that my son was beaten up by a group of people in the forest (near Attapadi-Agali) saying that he was a thief. Then he was handed over to the police and soon he developed complications. He was taken to a hospital, where he died. He is not a thief, instead he was not of sound mind.”

“This is some sort of a fascist Malayali psyche which has developed recently and has to be tackled. If the police wish to arrest me for sharing this video in the social media, let them do that,’ said Joy Mathew.

In a post over Facebook, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan wrote, “This is in no way good for a literate society and the progress that our state has made. I have instructed the state police chief to see that all those who have had a role to be brought before the rule of law.”

Stating that Madhu was declared “brought dead” by doctors at the hospital he was taken to, an official of the Kerala police said, “A case under section 174 CrPC against unknown persons has been filed. Arrests have not been made yet. The post-mortem examination of the body will be conducted at the Thrissur Medical College and the report will reveal more about his injuries.”

Meanwhile, the outraged local tribal community has threatened that if the people behind the incident were not arrested, they would launch a protest.

“Those who did it claim that this youth was a thief, but that’s their allegation. The state government will act very strongly and none who have done this would be spared,” said state minister of SC/ST, AK Balan.
