YS Sharmila, the sister of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and daughter of former CM YS Rajasekhara Reddy (YSR), launched her political outfit YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) in Hyderabad on Thursday on the occasion of her father’s 72nd birth anniversary.

The launch was followed by a roadshow and a grand event with crowds at a function hall in Hyderabad. Speaking at the launch event, Sharmila said that the party’s agenda is focussed on three major points — welfare, self-sufficiency and equality.

Reacting to the party launch, BJP Telangana Chief Spokesperson K Krishna Saagar Rao said the whole programme was like a new movie’s audio release event and nothing more.

Sharnila’s mother YS Vijaya, popularly known as Vijayamma, was present in the party launch event to support her daughter while brother Jagan were remained absent as he was on a visit to Kadapa and Anantapur districts, where he celebrated Rythu Dinotsavam (farmer’s day) to commemorate his father’s birth anniversary.

Marking her foray into active politics, Sharmila announced that in exactly 100 days, she would begin a padayatra in Telangana to interact with people and understand their problems. She said Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had failed to fulfill promises.

Unveiling the party’s agenda and flag in the midst of her followers, Sharmila said that her party will work to reserve 50% seats in assembly for women and Backward Classes will be given reservation on the basis of population.

Calling her father YS Rajasekhara Reddy a symbol of the welfare schemes in the country, Sharmila alleged that chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao does not know what welfare is. She said KCR’s definition of standing on one’s own feet is making people stand in line for Covid-19 treatment, ration cards and everything else.

Sharmila said every family in Telangana is having a loan burden due to which the state is in debt trap of Rs 4 lakh crore. No one is happy in the state except KCR’s family, he said.

Hours after the launch, Andhra Pradesh CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has distanced himself from his sister’s political foray into Telangana even before her first public meeting in Khammam three months ago.

After the death of Congress chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy in chopper crash in 2009, his son, now his daughter is invoking his legacy to gain a political foothold in Telangana.
