Government oil companies have released the prices of petrol and diesel for Sunday, May 29. Oil companies have not made any change in the price of petrol and diesel, giving relief to the common people for the eighth consecutive day.

Earlier on May 21, the government had cut excise duty. Excise duty on petrol was cut by Rs 8 per litre and in diesel by Rs 6 per litre . Since then, the price of petrol and diesel has decreased.

After the announcement of the center, the governments of Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Odisha and Kerala have cut VAT. In Rajasthan, it has been announced to cut VAT on petrol by Rs 2.48 per litre and on diesel by Rs 1.16 per litre.

The Kerala state government has cut VAT on petrol by Rs 2.41 per litre and on diesel by Rs 1.36 per litre . The Odisha government has cut VAT on petrol by Rs 2.23 and on diesel by Rs 1.36. The Maharashtra government has cut VAT on petrol by Rs 2.08 per litre and on diesel by Rs 1.44 per litre.

At present, petrol in Delhi is ₹ 96.72 a litre and diesel is being sold for ₹ 89.62, a litre . At the same time, the cheapest petrol in Port Blair is Rs 84.10 and diesel is Rs 79.74 litre.

Petrol and diesel consumption in India has increased in May. During this time, demand improved with the onset of the harvest season, along with a pick-up in economic activity. According to preliminary data released by the industry on Monday, petrol sales in the first fortnight of May has increased by 14 per cent as compared to the same period last month.

During this time, the demand for diesel increased by 1.8 per cent, while the sale of LPG has increased by 2.8 per cent from May 1 to 15, 2022. Public sector retailers sold 1.28 lakh tonnes of petrol during this time, which is 59.7 per cent higher than the corresponding period of last year. This figure is 16.3 per cent higher than the corresponding period of 2019.
