Petrol and diesel prices have been yet again surged by 40 paise per litre in Delhi on Monday. This is the 12th increase in fuel prices in 14 days, taking the total hike in petrol and diesel rates by Rs 8.40 per litre. The petrol in Delhi will now be available at Rs 103.81 per litre and the diesel in the capital will cost Rs 95.07 per litre.

Prices were raised by Rs 80 per litre on the first four days, the largest single-day increase since the daily price revision began in June 2017. The prices of petrol and diesel were on freeze since November 4 last year but it ended on March 22, and since then, the price of fuel rates has been surging with each passing day.

The escalating conflict between Russia and Ukraine has created an atmosphere of fear and distrust in the global market. Meanwhile, there is some solace in the fact that the prices of petrol and diesel have remained unchanged even today. Prices of fuel have remained steady for over 105 days.

Despite the multi-year-high prices of global crude oil prices, the rates of petrol and diesel have not changed. However, there was speculation that the prices of petrol and diesel could surge by Rs 10-15 per litre after the elections are over on March 10.

The last rate cut was by Delhi when it reduced the local sales tax, or the value-added tax (VAT), on petrol from 30 to 19.4 percent from December 1 midnight, lowering the price by about Rs 8 to Rs 95.41 per litre. In the national capital, the price of diesel has remained steady at Rs 86.67 per litre.

The Centre had gone for the steepest excise duty cut ever on November 3 to bring retail prices down from record highs, slashing the charge on petrol by Rs 5 and the duty on diesel by Rs 10. To provide additional relief to consumers, many states and union territories followed the Centre’s path.

The common man has finally found some relief as the prices of petrol and diesel has been slashed across the country. This decision was taken by the Oil Manufacturing Companies (OMCs) on Tuesday in which the petrol price has now been cut by 11 to 15 paise per litre, and the diesel price has been slashed by 15-16 paise per litre across the nation.

Earlier, the petrol and diesel price was slashed on August 22, in which the petrol price was reduced by 15-20 paise per litre across the country.

Now, according to the latest revision of the petrol and diesel price, the petrol will cost Rs 101.49 per litre in Delhi and the price of diesel in Delhi will cost Rs 88.92 per litre.
