Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday awarded boxer Lovlina Borgohain with the post of DSP within the Assam Police’s honorary designation. CM Sarma tweeted that he on behalf of the state’s people and Government of Assam at Srimanta Sankardev Kalashetra is glad to have felicitated Lovlina Borgohain the first from Assam to win an Olympic medal and that her success at Tokyo Olympics would remain etched as a milestone in the sporting history of Assam and India. 

Lovlina was also rewarded with a cheque of Rs 1 crore, a citation, a seleng chadar, a xoria, a jaapi and a muga shawl. Biswa also announced that the State Government would provide Rs 1 lakh every month to Lovlina till the next Olympics to enable her to prepare well.

 Assam government to appoint 22,921 teachers by October 2021

The state Government will appoint 22,921 teachers – 10,000 elementary education and 12,921 in higher education by end October 2021. Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said this is a part of the BJP’s pre-poll promise of providing jobs to 1 lakh candidates in a year. Having said that, he said, however, the TET (Teachers Eligibility Test) is a must for all these posts and should be completely on merit basis. He also said that the state is contemplating on reopening of classes for final students from September 1, 2021 and is taking up issues with the Health Department.

PJACBM leader Garjan Mushahary along with 17 members joins Congress

Garjan Mushahary, chief convener of the People’s Joint Action Committee for Bodoland Movement (PJACBM) along with 17 other members of the party, joined the Assam Congress on Thursday. Assam Pradesh Congress President Bhupen Borah in his welcome note said that the people of the sate are disillusioned with the present BJP government, and that the joining of the PJACBM members will bring a new light on the horizon of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
