On Saturday, Japan Prime Minister Fumio Kishida while delivering a public speech was attacked with a pipe-like object suspected to be a bomb. The Prime Minister was unharmed and safely evacuated from the spot.

As per the reports in the Japanese local media, while addressing a crowd gathered at Wakayama city of Japan, a man attacked PM Kishida with an object which appeared to be a pipe shaped and suspected to be a bomb, a loud explosion was also heard but due to the tight security cover the Prime Minister remains safe.

The police apprehended the man identified as the suspect for attacking PM Kishida. Local news agency NHK shared visuals of the detention.

Some reports also claim it to be a purported smoke bomb but there were no immediate damages to the people who were present at the scene.

PM Kishida was on a visit to the Wakayama who came from a tour of fishing harbor and the moment he started his speech, the incident took place.

In July 2022, in a tragic turn of events, the former Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe while addressing a public campaign for a Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) candidate in the Nara city of Japan was assassinated by an assailant from the crowd who shot him down and killed amid security cover. The Security in Japan has beefed up since then looking upon the threat hovering around Japan’s head.

The attack on PM Kishida comes at a time when Japan is just a month ahead to host the Group of Seven (G7) leader’s summit which is scheduled to be held in Hiroshima in May.

With this attack on Prime Minister Kishida, tensions rise up across Japan, the talks of assassination threats is once again gained up momentum across the corridors of security agencies of Japan.
