Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched Indian Space Association, which will act as the premier body for space and satellite companies in India, saying that the country never had a more decisive government before.

Addressing the launch event of Indian Space Association (ISpA), PM Modi said, IN-SPACe will help boost the private space sector and work as a single window independent agency for all space related programmes.PM Modi also pushed for Atmanirbhar Bharat and said that the country is witnessing comprehensive reforms. Modi lauded the government’s success in privatising loss-making public airline Air India to assert that this sows its commitment and seriousness of the government. The Prime Minister launched the INSpA via video conferencing.

Modi said that the government will play the role of an enabler and aggregator of space assets, that it was not right time for linear innovation, but for exponential innovation. Private sectors and start-ups will be allowed to make launchpads and space facilities.

“Our space sector is the medium of progress for 130 crore Indians. For us, the space sector means better mapping, imaging and connectivity for ordinary citizens, better speed of delivery for our entrepreneurs, better forecasts, protection and earnings for our farmers and fishermen, better supervision of the environment, and the safety of hundreds of thousands of people and these goals of the country are now the goals of the Indian Space Association (ISpA),” said PM Modi.

What is Indian Space Association?

The Indian Space Association (ISpA) will undertake policy advocacy and engage with all private players in the Indian space domain, including the government and its agencies. Focusing on the PM’s vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ the ISpA will help the country to make self-reliant.

The Indian Space Association (ISpA) will be headed by Jayan Patil and the chairperson will be Pawan Goenaka. Its founding members include, Larson and Toubro, Nelco (Tata group), Bharti Airtel, One web, Mapmyindia, Walchandnagar industries and Ananth technology limited and many others.
